I'm glad to finally see the MKE-SAN non-stops return after all of these years. Maybe they'll go year-round if demand is strong.

The schedules/aircraft for MKE-SEA are a bit strange. It's an evening departure/red-eye return that only operates up to four days per week. Interesting that SAN gets an Airbus while SEA sees an E190. This summer MKE will have up to three non-stops to SEA (2x daily on AirTran, 1x less than daily with Midwest.

Also of interest is that SFO is now listed as seasonal service. It was initially loaded as year-round. Of course, that could still change.

Very good news indeed for MKE - SAN! How long have we all been speculating this route would return for Midwest?

I'm glad you appreciate this news Blue. I remember how you talked about wanting the SAN non-stop service at the seat sale. Glad we could accommodate!

Beside these nonstops, Southwest offers direct (one-stop) service MKE-LAX-MKE, sometimes 2x per day.

Let's hope that MKE can support all of the reinstated service.
Is there room for yet additional expansion of service at MKE?

Too bad the market isn't strong enough for one year round MKE-SAN on either YX or FL. Very few folks realize how nice the San Diego area is in the winter. I was just out there a couple weeks ago, and SoCal is great in January/February.

They should be available for purchase on midwestairlines.com by the end of the day. Sometimes it takes awhile, I don't really know why.

I could not agree more. Year round service would be fantastic.

I just booked two tickets on Travelocity.

Now you just need to tell the people in Planning that the route should be flown with an E190 during the fall/winter :D

Sabre issue? Don't they still own Travelocity?
If so, it's interesting that Travelocity has the new flights loaded, but not YX.

Finlay I have something to talk about. I wonder how Airtran is doing on MKE-SEA and MKE-SFO in the winter? I also wonder if Airtran will keep SAN around longer to compete with Midwest. This is good news for MKE people. The west coast is amazing, I love it and am never leaving it.

i agree. Milwaukee needs to have more business connections on the west coast. I do wonder with all of the recent flight additions if th market how much the market has grown?

It's hard to say how well AirTran is doing with MKE-SEA/SFO. Both routes are probably heavily fortified with connecting traffic during the winter months. Loads could be o.k. but yields likely are taking a hit.

Keep in mind that AirTran will not have West Coast all to themselves this coming summer. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

AirTran has SAN-MKE/ATL flights available until the end of the booking window. For now, it's looks like both routes will be year-round. AirTran does have a tendency to make schedule changes at the last minute so things could certainly change.

The AirTran route map effective May 2010 still says SAN is a seasonal destination (from both MKE and ATL). Interesting that they don't even fly ATL-SAN in the winter. Perhaps it's because FL runs a ton of seasonal Florida flights in the winter and they simply can't spare as many aircraft for west coast runs during that time of year.

Of course they might decide to make MKE-SAN nonstop year-round, but it's probably too early to tell. I would think that, if any enhancements are in store for FL at MKE, they'll have some big announcement at the airport within in the next few weeks. FL is famous for overdoing their PR, especially in Milwaukee where they appear to be fighting for the long-term.

Good news and bad news about booking the new SAN service on the YX site:

Bookings are now accepted SAN-MKE
Bookings not available MKE-SAN

Hopefully, there will be high demand to fly to MKE, but San Diego is also a great destination. :D

Travelocity couldn't display the seat maps. They directed me to the Midwest website. I just looked for my reservation again this morning and of course it's still no where to be found.

Midwest has really got to get these problems with their website fixed.

I just went into my online travel agents website and attempted to purchase MKE-SAN leaving May 6 and returning May 10...The only direct flight that got returned was a Frontier flight (Outgoing was flight 969 and returning was 970)...I dont think that is right, shouldnt these be Midwest flights serviced by Frontier? Price was $212, which seems to be an awesome price for a long weekend to San Diego in May.

Expedia is doing the same thing... It shows up as a Frontier flight nonstop from MKE to SAN.

Travelocity shows both YX and F9 for the nonstops and prices the itinerary at $203.90, including all taxes and fees.

Great news, but why the red eye from SEA-MKE?! From a tourist standpoint a daytime flight would be better.

Great news, but why the red eye from SEA-MKE?! From a tourist standpoint a daytime flight would be better.

It's probably because that plane is used somewhere else during the day. I think with all these new additions we are getting to a point where they are going to need to acquire some more aircraft before they can get all the frequencies and timings down correctly. Add in the fact that the 2 hour time difference SEA to MKE makes the plane in use for a greater part of the day, making the SEA to MKE part happen at night means they can use that aircraft during the day for routes out of MKE.

I'm sure down the line they would like to upgrade that route and add frequencies but as it stands it probably makes for some decent east coast connections through MKE if passengers don't mind the redeye section on the way home. Arriving at 5:35 am leaves room for connections in the first bank of flights leaving MKE in the morning.

Also remember that MKE passengers can book MKE-DEN-SEA and MKE-MCI-SEA making the non-stop just another option for MKE flyers. A simple search for SEA-MKE on June 11 yields no less then 10 different flight options, most leaving between 8AM and 2PM.
