I am trying to get from NYC-BOS with a three pound yorkie. I cannot fly as I have to do it this week and the fares are astronomical. Companies like Amtrak do not accept pets. Anyone aware of a bus company that does?

How about a rental car?

NYC to BOS is definately a reasonable drive. A car rental for a day should be reasonably priced.

If your Yorkie is only 3 pounds, couldn't he reasonably fit inside of a tote bag on Amtrak? How would they know you have a tiny dog on your person (unless he sees another Yorkie).

Given what I know about small dogs I'd bet there would be some barking involved that would tip people off to the dog being there.

NYC to BOS takes 4 hrs max via rental car. Your dog wont be allowed on the bus, however the mega bus is a double decker bus without any personnel on the top level (I certainly doubt that any passengers would rat you out).

Sorry for the late reply.

I used to travel with my dog to DC via one of the "Chinatown" bus lines. They did allow pets, but the pet had to be on your lap. Not comfortable with an overheating 25 lb dog.

So, given the cheap prices at the time, I just bought my pooch her own ticket. I spread a towel on her seat, and she was very happy.

Keep in mind that the Chinatown lines are not the safest thing in the world, and they sometimes forget to empty the chemical toilet, making things very smelly.

Lastly, I had one confrontation with a last-minute passenger that found himself without a seat (and had to leave). He saw the dog, and insisted that humans should have priority, thus, he should get the seat that I paid for.

Didn't happen :)

I would rent a car and drive it, for the pet`s comfort most of all.

Airfare aside, I remember how much my Jack Russell terrier hated to fly. He loved riding in cars with the family though, so I would never even consider taking a dog on a plane for such a short distance that could easily be driven.

Since your Yorkie is so small though, I suppose the tote bag option on the Amtrak would be another way to go. If it is against the rules, I would worry about being caught with a pet if he started to bark or anything.
