So, tell me guys, what's going on in Stockholm the weekend of the 27th August 2010 that's caused all the hotels to be completely full?

We were thinking of visiting that weekend, but it doesn't look possible. I've tried searching online but there's nothing I can find. Anyone got any insider information?

Mind you , I´m just guesssing here , but since this a weekend it might be caused by cruise ships calling port , ending one cruise and picking up passengers for the next.

Hi! It's the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology, the the largest medical forum in Europe...

At that time of the year a lot of student and other accommodations are made available by students out of town but wanting a few bucks. You might want to try that.

There are still rooms available. Use mobissimo.com and you'll find some of them. Solna, for example is about 15 minutes away from central Stockholm on the subway/SL system. Not convenient to and from the airport unless taking a taxi, but not bad if coming into Stockholm via rail.

Hi! It's the Congress of the European Society of Cardiology, the the largest medical forum in Europe...That same medical convention was held in Berlin two or three years ago. Hotel availability was so impacted that I ended up changing my travel dates to the following week.

FT's just incredible ain't it? I spent days looking on search engines and found no explanation for the (frankly, incredible) uptake of hotel accommodations. One question on here and now I know the answer.

So, looks like Stockholm next year instead, then. Thanks guys for the information - anyone know where the convention is being held next year? Better get in quick!

Leading up to a cruise this May in Norway, I was looking for a hotel in Bergen; hotels all full. Bergen International Festival going on that weekend. I've now booked into a hotel that hasn't opened yet. *fingers crossed*

Moving on, we need a night in Oslo; hotels all full. That night happens to be the Eurovision Song Contest Finals, held in Olso.

What next, the Olympics in Kirkenes?

There may be some post-Crown Princess wedding events going on.

Word of warning, it's ALWAYS difficult to book rooms in the city as there are few hotels. ANY convention that comes to city books hotels as far as Sollentuna, Fairgrounds, and further out into the suburbs. Stockholm hotels are :td: when it comes to availability. And, the rooms are small.

Look into guesthouses/hostels or a friend's place to crash if you are coming.

And hostels are even worse during the summer. The popular city locations tend to be booked solid months in advance during the summer period...
