Has anyone stayed at HI Belgrade recently?

Thinking about staying there in a few weeks. The photos on the website look pleasant enough and the location would be ok for me. The points+cash rate of 5k+$60 seems like a good deal, as BAR is consistently between EUR120-200.

So, if anyone has any experience with this hotel I'd like to hear about it!

On a slightly related topic: What's up with IC Belgrade? Wasn't it supposed to re-open this year? Doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon, the structure is still branded "Continental" and taking reservations...

Nice hotel, location is not the best, espec. when on sightseeing. Rates are high because it's one of the only internationally branded hotels in Belgrad. Rooms are spacious, staff is very friendly. Can't remember whether we got an upgrade. Sorry.

The Continental, btw, is supposed to be rebranded as Crowne Plaza, whilst the IC will be a new building. Apart from that, I have no idea about the status of both projects.

Thanks a lot Chinatrvl! You wouldn't happen to remember if they have free wi-fi in the rooms? A recent review on TripAdvisor only talked about free wi-fi in the public areas...

Yes, the location is not the best for sight-seeing but that doesn't really matter to me, as it's only a 10 min cab ride to Republic Square and I usually have to go to different neighbourhoods in BEG (Stari Grad, Novi Beograd, Vozdovac, Banovo Brdo...)

Thanks for the clarification re Continental->CP. All those projects in the city are quite confusing these days (I have a publication from late 2008 that mentions a brand-new Crowne Plaza project to be realized in the Airport City Belgrade development which I guess got canned). Let's hope all those new projects will drive the prices down but I guess some of them got put on hold due to the economic crisis.

No sorry. We were there without laptop, purely on a tourist trip ;) So I don't know about internet at all. Free wifi in public areas and pay in room sounds possible; some European IHG hotels do that.

OT: We always stay at the Hotel Admiral Club (www.hoteladmiralclubbeograd.com) in BEG. Close to the Fort and the old town, luxurious, free internet & breakfast, spectacular dining-room.

I will stay in this property next week. Does anyone have suggestions for airport transfer?

What about an e-mail address for the hotel?

Can't help you with the email address (can't seem to find it on the site) but a taxi from the airport should cost about 500 DIN (5-6 EUR). At least that's the price I'd haggle for. Don't go with the cab drivers that harrass you in the arrivals hall but rather go outside and get in one of the cabs with the Belgrade city logo and a cab number (BeoTaxi and Pink Taxi are two decent companies).

Incidentally I had to postpone my trip and will also stay there next week so we might run into each other :).

Thanks for the advice! I will probably be there from the 12th to the 14th of May.

You're welcome! Bad luck with the timing, though, I'll arrive late on 14th and will stay till 18th :).
