Air New Zealand Air Points - Air NZ - Cathay business comparison

Just had the opportunity to compare business in CX and NZ, both flat bed products. My first time in CX with their flat-bed seating in herring-bone configuration.

NZ was excellent as usual.
The CX flight was overnight MEL-HKG. Beds quite narrow on CX compared with NZ. Felt like a sardine in a can. Not having to flip the seat over to get the bed on CX was not a bad idea, and I was able to raise the top half of the bed up a bit for comfort. (For NZ, I use 2 pillows to elevate my head) Bed felt a little bit harder on CX, but that could have just been me.
Wine list choices very limited on CX, food ok. I only had breakfast as the MEL departure was 1 AM.
Tray table quite small on CX, much prefer the larger table on NZ.
IFE was very quick on CX and I liked the IFE controller. It also displayed the time to destination which was handy.
Looking forward to seeing the new seating from NZ as discussed in other threads.

I have LHR-LAX-AKL coming up in J. I presume they don't give you pyjamas...

You presume correctly. You could always bring your own... I've seen fellow pax wearing BA F ones on LHR-LAX before.

I will be wearing my VS flight suit (i.e. pyjamas!) on my NZ flight tonight.

I just find them really comfy to fly in, hate sleeping in my jeans and means one less change of clothes required.

Yes, this is quite popular. So much so, even pop singers are doing it:
