Thrifty - Thrifty at LAX

Now, here's my question...

I've made a reservation for a convertible at this location for just 199/week for 12 days... The total including taxes give me something about 450...pretty good deal

The problem is I'm 24 years old and also I need to buy some insurance...

Under 25-fee is 25/day
LDW is 15/day

If you multiply for 12 days the total goes to 930... not so good deal

What would you do to minimize this costs? any idea? We are coming from Argentina and our trip was organized to be driving around California in our convertible

Rent off-airport with Hertz. They have a coupon, PC 126884, that removes the underage fee. Airport rentals are usually a ripoff, so take mass transit to a neighborhood location. The further away you go from the airport, the lower the prices generally go. So, check the prices at each location in the Los Angeles area.

How can I be assured they won´t charge me this when arriving to the counter?

Hi I'm in a similar position. You can call them to verify the code you used qualifies you for discount - get them to add a note to your account that underage fees are waived - should prevent problems when you come to pay.

It's still up there. Go to Deals by the Day, and it says at the bottom, "No extra charge 21-24." It expires February 6, but it's been extended in some form since over a year ago. So if your trip begins after that, check again for an update.
