SAS EuroBonus - 1 piece of checked baggage for US-Europe trip? Normal?

I just booked at Seattle to Copenhagen flight over Seattle directly with SAS.

Going to Denmark, UA has the first leg, SAS the second.

On the reservation, it said 1 piece from Seattle to Chicago and 2 pieces from Chicago to Copenhagen (!).

So I called them, and they said that as UA has the first leg, the make the rules - even though I bought the ticket directly from SAS.

I was stunned, but they refused to do anything - told me to just pay the $50 (oh, and kept saying: "from chicago you can have 2 pieces!" - big help).

Does anyone have similar experiences?

Thanks,
Niels

PS I'm pretty sure I'm not going to fly SAS next time I go to Denmark - it used to be a good airline. Used to be.

SAS CS has never been able to give an accurate answer regarding baggage allowance to the States, IME. Since it is an international ticket you should be able to check two bags for free even though the first leg is domestic, but you can give United a call and ask to make sure. I ave avoided flying SAS a couple of times since CS has been unable to confirm any *G privileges, including baggage allowance. But in the end it just seems to CS who don't know their job.

UA has changed their baggage allowance quite recently. Now, if a non-status passenger flies Economy, it is 1 checked bag for free.

As UA is the first leg, I think their rules are what matters, and I don't think SAS has much to do about that.

But if I'm buying the ticket from SAS and its an international flight, wouldnt you normally get 2 pieces? I've done similar trips (like Sydney over LA with Alaska as the first leg, Qantas as the 2nd this summer), and never had this issue?

Thanks!

It's rather new. For travel from December 15. (Unless you are *S or higher. For me, this is THE answer to the "why bother with EBS"-question, I like US shopping ;))

Hm, so many rules, so little time *sigh* Seems like flying is getting more and more complicated every day ;-D

Thanks everyone!
