I'm travelling to the USA in a few months. Can anyone advise if international Diners Club cards (mine is issued in Australia) are now accepted without hassle by Discover merchants in the USA? I gather that US Master Card merchants no longer accept international Diners Club cards.

You are correct.

You can now use your Diners Club card wherever Discover acceptance mark is shown. Please note that Discover is nowhere near as widely accepted in the US as Visa and MasterCard though. You might need a back up Visa/MasterCard just in case then.

I know this is what Diners Club say, but has anyone actually tried this with a U.S. Discover merchant who has never seen a Diners Club International card before?

Bump. Hasn't anyone tried this?

It shouldn't really be a problem. Most merchants just slide the card through the credit card machine. If the machine accepts it, then they just check the signature. I'm sure that you will be fine.

Could work out in your favour - I "joined" the UA RCC lounge, paying with an Au Diners card. Got a temporary pass which I used several times, then a rejection slip in the mail saying that Diners cards issued in Australia were not acceptable. Didn't take it further, having decided the RCCs aren't worth it.
