Texas - ELP La Quinta Lomaland or Airport West?

Heading to Fort Bliss for a few days in February to welcome my brother home from Iraq. Delta Skymiles has decent deals on all of the La Quintas in the area. Checking out TripAdvisor, Lomaland looks best, but Airport West is closer to ELP and Bliss.

Any experiences? Suggestions?

I would recommend the airport location because it is very close to a municipal bus line that travels from a stop near the hotel and onto Ft. Bliss (including the Comissary and PX) and back. PM me if you want more information.

(p.s. I know of a few FTers who also stayed in hotels near the abovementioned hotel who came to El Paso for "dental tourism" across the border into Ciudad Juárez.)

Thanks for the 411! The rest of the family will be there as well, so shouldn't have to worry about transportation (i.e. shuttle bus to the base). But you did remind me that I'll have to take advantage of the PX and stock up on everything we can't get here in Tokyo. Cheers!

Any one else with hotel recs in ELP?

Hm. A "shuttle bus" to Ft. Bliss...never heard of such before. The bus that I did mention earlier is Sun Metro, Route 7, Direction: Northeast.

As for stocking up at the Ft Bliss PX, that's a good idea. That PX is much better than the BX where I work at (Los Angeles AFB, just south of LAX).
