Hi folks,
I am a FTL.. wanted to know if i can access *Alliance lounges in other airports if i am travelling in Economy class.. I mean say am in Singapore, can i use the SQ business class lounge or are there any * alliance silver lounges ??
Unfortunately even though I flew around 70000 miles last year, I am still a FTL and hence I guess only * alliance silver... I regret it.. if I would hv credited my miles to SQ or TG, would have been Gold and could easily use the * Alliance gold lounges and even LH Senator lounger...

Awaiting ur advise..
thanks

Hello,

in the LH web, under Information & Services - At the aiport - Lounges, you can see which lounges you may use depending on the type of ticket and status card you hold.
Unfortunately in Singapore you cannot use any lounge with an economy class ticket and your FTL card, if I saw correctly, but you may double check it.

Hello,

*silver is almost worthless unless you fly with the airline who has issued the card.

When flying a Star Alliance-partner in Eco, you usually have no benefits at all.

For the lounge access: When you depart with LH/LX/LO/EN/LG/SN/OU/JP/OS (did I forget a M&M-airline?), you can always enter any airline-own business Class lounge. If there is none at the airport, it depends of the agreement between the M&M-airline you fly with and the lounge-operator at that particular airport.

LH has no own lounge at SIN and no agreement concerning the lounge access for FTLs travelling in Y.

Ooops thats new for me! I thougth you will have access to the lounge because it is a LH partner and you have a ticket for th flight. But you might be right. :td:

You have no Lounge-Access in SIN, but it is not a problem. The SQ-Lounge in SIN is not that good. If you start your journey in SIN just try to arrive at the airport as late as possible. If you fly with LH you can use the Business-Class Check-In.

If you connect in SIN you may check out the Swimming-Pool in the T1 Transit hotel. That is better than any lounge!

Depending on your flight pattern an other program may be more useful for you, or you could do a small milage run at the end of the year to become SEN. The good thing with LH is that you only need to requalify every 2 years.

In general: As FTL your lounge access depends on the operating carrier:
LX and OS are far more generous with Lounge-Access. So if you fly LX or OS you should check the airline-pages!

Not true, Rorschi.. I managed to get in on a US coded and operated ticket (BP), as well as on a UA one. That was within Germany, however, but I wouldn't mind betting that it works for AC too. The woman assured me in both cases that it was normal.. actually, I think I asked check-in at Düsseldorf about it, and no problem with access at MUC. I am FTL too, and I find the card far from worthless. I really appreciate the benefits, even if they appear marginal to the higher echelons.

Now, I am just wondering if I am going to be able to get in (if there's time) at GVA, when I am flying on a CO ticket operated by UA. This will be interesting...

As an FTL, you can get into any LH/LX/OS-owned (business) lounge as an FTL as long as you're flying Star Alliance. So you should be fine.

OK, must clarify:

If an M&M-airline*-lounge exists, you can always enter as an FTL, providing you have an M&M-airline* or Star Alliance -operated flight.
Same applies for departures with a non Star Alliance partner, if the M&M-airline* which operates the lounge has further agreements (e.g. at MUC, you can enter with a Qatar Airways or Cirrus Air ticket).

If no M&M-airline*-lounge exists, you can enter the partner- or airport-lounge when 1.) departing on an M&M-airline* and 2.) this particular M&M-airline* has an agreement with the lounge operator for FTLs.

As an FTL, you are considered more or less as a base member when no M&M-airline* is included with your departure, either as meaning of transportation or as lounge operator.

*) M&M-airlines are LH/LX/LO/EN/LG/SN/OU/JP/OS (did I forget one?)

Ticket: It needs to be operated by an LH-Partner:
- Star-Alliance
- Airline Partner (Air India, Air Malta, Brussels Airlines, Cirrus Airlines, Ethiopean Airlines, Luxair, Mexicana, Qatar Airways, TACA and TAM)

see: http://konzern.lufthansa.com/en/alliances.html

Be careful: Not every ticket of M&M Partner is an LH Partner (e.g. DE!).

Lounge:
- All Business/FTL-Lounges operated by integrated M&M Members (LH/OS/LX/LG/SN/OU/LO/...)
- Some contracted lounges. But this depends on the operating carrier! VCE for example: Lounge access if you fly LX, but no access if you fly LH!

Which includes such oddities as an FTL gets offered lounge access at BHX if flying in Y despite there being no M&M lounge there. Although *cough* with about 20 flights a day now, perhaps it's time for a Star Alliance lounge at BHX.

I've seen it in a couple of threads. I checked the "glossary" but it isn't listed. Thanks.

The old BA Terraces lounge wasn't a disgrace, but that's long gone now.

To be honest, I rarely use the BHX lounge except for a quick coffee, if I'm in Y and want a decent brekkie, I just go and buy one. A bag of Quavers will not do :D
