Story (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10006/1026343-100.stm)

A major supporter of the Senate Bill 711, Rep. Dante Santoni, D-Berks, said it will build on the jobs and tax revenue already provided by a slot machine law approved in 2004. He said slots have provided more than 8,600 jobs at nine casinos (so far) around the state and expected that each casino that adds table games will add another 800 or more jobs.

So why would anybody from Phila., or NYC for that matter, bother with AC when (presumably) there will be full-service casiinos in Phila.?

Too bad New Jersey officials neglected to improve conditions in AC (outside the immediate vicinity of the casinos) as promised.

I see casinos being built on the PA/NJ border as it's only an hour away from NYC.

During the summer time, I'm pretty sure people will still be flocking to Atlantic City for the beaches.

^ I second that. I see many families with children who go to the casinos and parents take turns on watching the children at the beach.

AC has always neglected things. It's mostly due to the historic corruption that dates back to the establishment of gaming in the garden state. But, they had a veritable gold mine; that put revenues on the Las Vegas strip to shame up until the late 1980's.

AC is finally, growing up a bit --- and is tapping both the gaming and non-gaming markets. Las Vegas realized a long time ago that this was a good growth avenue, and revenue generator.

I think those looking for full service casinos and a night out will still look to Atlantic City. Here's a recent article (http://www.atlanticcityweekly.com/arts-and-entertainment/features/Club-Hopping-Think-Again-Atlantic-Citys-nightlife-grew-steadily-for-the-last-decade-making-it-easy-to-find-your-personal-hot-spot--82194227.html) on some of the non-gaming areas of AC.

IMO, there is a lot of potential growth in this sector. Of course, if PA is smart, they would also follow this lead. ;)

During the winter, I certainly wouldn't bother with AC. Except maybe for concerts.

But as others mention, the beach is really gorgeous in warm weather. Also, it's fun to hop around the boardwalk from casino to casino, seeing if you run better somewhere else. If it weren't for the beach, there would be no reason even in summer to hit AC.
