Hi,

I have posted this on the HP thread before but would like to get more oppinions on this:

HP took back nearly 12K out of my Flight Fund account after they found out I was not entiteled for the miles. In the fine print it did say no miles for VUSA fares but they posted them to me in MARCH 1997 (!). Just now they take them back. Has that happend to you? What do you think about it ? I will mail this thread to their customer service to let them know what FlyerTalkers trhink about that!

Viele Grüße

After 2 years they decide to correct THEIR mistake?! Seems to me if they cared about customer service 1) This would've been taken care of within 6 months -OR-
2) Fuggettaboutit, after 2 years write it off and move on!

Is there a statute of limitations for TAKING BACK MILES???

I would pass on this question to our hosts at Inside Flyer and see what Randy and company would say.

Heard of mileage corrections within a few months but after ALL THIS TIME???

... why not write a thank you letter for not asking any interest-compensation (for the time their miles were on your "bank" account) ...

What if you had used those miles? I wonder how they would get them back.

I one time had some extra miles post into my United account. I discovered it at the same time as a Mileage Plus phone rep did, and my immediate thought was that she was going to take the miles back out. Instead, she stated, "well, looks like that mistake is on us -- we never take out miles once they've posted to the account."

Something tells me that a really big mistake might change their mind, but on the few occasions that mistakes have happened in my favor with United (and other) accounts, the miles have indeed stayed in.

I had exactly the opposite experience w/United--used a free ticket, was rebooked from FAT/LAX/ORD to FAT/SFO/ORD, got miles. 10 months later they were reversed.
