In all our years going to Cancun, we never had dinner at Italian's. Where we often had Gelato there (best in Cancun), we never had a meal. Place looked like a chain restaurant (was told by waiter that it is not but apparently there are other locations) and the prices were low enough that we assumed the food would be just so so. We were so so wrong.
We had dinner there Christmas day. Four of us shared a half order of fried calamari. Crisp with no oily taste, it came with an excellent dipping sauce. The half portions of salads were huge. Two in our party ordered pastas and loved them. Two of us tried meat. My son loved his steak with pepper sauce. My steak with a creamed green peppercorn topping was good, but after sampling the pasta I wish I had ordered pasta.
The service was attentive. There was a good wine list -- written on a wine bottle on the table with many by the glass choices in red and white.
If we did not all want different things, they had a family style option where a plate of pasta for four cost about 2.5 times a serving for one.
And for dessert, it was out front for Gelato. We will go back next year.
