JAL has put up a response on its home page, basically saying that it is "currently not a decided fact" and that they still intend to maintain the businesses.

Because frenzied selling of assets which may still be making them money is such a bright idea... I wish they'd make up their minds, ST or OW (and the money either brings), and stay in one piece.

Think about it their closest rival sold off their hotels during the peak of the market getting top dollar. You would have thought that the brain trust that was managing JL would have said "good idea" let's copy them! Instead they wait till the asset is worth much less.....:o

That is because unlike ANA, JAL has no hotels to sell. JAL Hotels only mange the hotels owned by other people. So selling the hotel units off won't be such big of a deal compare to ANA's.

I've thought for years that JAL should get out of the hotel business. Their hotels aren't very good and are terribly inconsistent in terms of amenities and room size. Almost any Hilton/Marriott/other major US chain hotel is better than most Nikko hotels. The only Nikko Hotels I've enjoyed are the one in o-Daiba (Tokyo) and the Nikko Alivila in Okinawa. The others were all big disappointments.

For some reasons I like Nikko NRT much better than Hilton NRT, not to mention I am HH Gold, the room I got at Hilton is downright poor compare to Nikko.
