I just received first 20k bonus miles from accepting that 40k credit card offer from F9. I've never flown F9. My regular trip is SFO-ATL. Investigating how to use those miles today on F9 website and speaking to reps on phone, I received this information. I can book a 20k round trip rewards ticket on F9 from SFO to ATL for May 6/ May 11. When I asked phone rep about a Denver layover I was informed that a SFO-DEN, DEN-ATL, ATL-SFO trip would run 45k miles or 15k for each leg. I also believe that I could get a coach round trip on AirTran for 25k F9 miles or a Business class round trip on AirTran for 45k F9 miles. Can anyone confirm or share their experiences with F9 layover policy or using F9 miles on AirTran.

25k f9 will get you 1 rt on air tran - but not 2 1 ways
will be subject to air trans blackout dates
to be honest
thats the only way i have found to use frontier miles
as i have never found open/eligible flights on F9 using F9 miles

DCA is admittedly one of the hardest F9 stations to use miles, since they only have 3 flights a day and usually have very high loads. However, I have found that they can be redeemed even here if you're willing to travel on non-peak days (midweek, Saturday). Recently, award availability has improved. I was able to book the 6 PM Friday night flight DCA-DEN (which is *never ever EVER* available w/miles) about 3 weeks ahead of time. It amazed me, but I took it as a good thing.
Further to the OP - on F9 a legal connection is 4 hours or less, or the next available flight. Anything more is considered a stopover.
