Women Travelers - Anyone interested in a rolling packing list thread?

Hi all, I've been a FT reader for a while now, but only discovered the "Women Travelers" thread recently when linked to from some packing advice threads.

What I found most useful and interesting were the lists of what people were taking on specific trips. I was wondering if it might be interesting to other people to share what they're packing, and also to ask for advice if they want it? I guess a lot of you are probably so packing efficient that your list might be the same all the time, but even that would be interesting to read. I've learned a lot from this forum and the packing tips thread, and am an aspiring one-bag packer.

I'm mentally pulling together my Christmas packing list at the moment, so will be contributing myself, if there's interest.

I'd welcome you to give it a go. We have some pretty long threads on carry-on packing, but certainly different destinations and purposes require different items.

Paris, first week of March. Five days. Temps should be in the mid 40's maybe 50's.

I basically wear mostly all black anyway, and I wear neck scarves for some color breaks.

I don't want to look like a tourist, or at least try not to...

I am taking only a carryon--the eBags weekender and a cross-body small purse, something secure.

What type of coat/jacket will I need?

Black comfortable walking shoes, like Rockport or Merrell.
Black slacks/black jeans/black tops/black tops....oy!

I carry a microfleece jacket that can zip into a very lightweight waterproof shell. The shell can be carried in one of the fleece's pockets, or in a handbag. The combo sees me through any mix of cold/wet/sleet/snow in a wide range of temperatures. They're long and loose enough to cover my lightweight merino layers for very cold weather, and not too hot if a balmy summer night turns wet or chilly.

I buy them from a mob that specializes in supplying businesses like construction companies and sporting organisations - they have a great range of colours and the quality is superb - at about AUS$80 for two pieces.

Sound nice. I have two anti-static (really!) Lands End fleece pull-overs, one in navy and one black. But I'll just take the black. Living in the Cleveland area, it gets brutally cold in the winter, and my Marmott parka is just too large and heavy. I have spring jackets, but they maybe too light. I'll look for a nice leather jacket...anyways I just love to shop.

I will have to be wise when I pack, as the eBags weekender is not that large.

A shorter trench-ish coat might be nice for Paris. Fleece is really more of a US/West Coast type of fashion item... You're aiming for Vogue or InStyle magazine look, not REI/LL Bean catalog?

GAP has a few on sale right now. They can transition easily for slightly dressier places. For a pop of color (and something to shop for ;) ) there's a lot of cute colorful belts right now. And H&M for a fun umbrella if there's showers out!

Think layers and silk thermal underwear (they don't take up much space in your rollaboard or on your body) in case the weather is cold.

A black lined raincoat is useful, and you can wear it onto the plane & stuff it in your overhead compartment.

Be sure to wear your heaviest/bulkiest shoes on your flight. Check the weather forecasts before you leave to see if you'll likely be at the lower or higher end of the temp range. Boots are very big in Paris at the moment, but Parisians may be bored with them by March.

that is a great idea. I, for one, take everything instead of packing smart
