GateGuru = $1.99.
There's also a free version called GateGuru Lite, limited to 2 airports of your choice.
I haven't used it yet so don't know how easy and useful it is.

Hi everyone –
My name is Dan Gellert and I am the creator of GateGuru. First off, thanks very much for starting this forum. The FlyerTalk community is very important to us at GateGuru, so I figured I would introduce myself.
In case you are not familiar with GateGuru, it is an iPhone / iPod Touch app released this week that is meant to serve as an in-airport guide for the top 85 U.S. airports. It provides users with the locations of in-airport amenities (down to the gate level) as well as reviews and ratings of those amenities from fellow travelers.
We hope to leverage the community here to help us better understand what people like and don't like about the product, new ideas for it, where we should expand to next, etc. I would love to get your feedback on the application and would be happy to respond to questions or discuss ways to improve it.
Our website is located at: www.gateguruapp.com. You can download GateGuru at: http://bit.ly/ggitunes. There is also a free version (you get 2 airports of your choice versus 85) for those who want to try before you buy (link: http://bit.ly/5JGFQI).
Thanks

Welcome to FT, GateGuru.
I've played around a bit with GateGuru Lite. Certainly lots of potential. My suggestions:
- make the app more graphical
- use the compass and GPS functions of the 3GS to make it more dynamic and interactive
- augmented reality!

Thanks for the warm welcome GadgetFreak. I am a big Five Guys fan as well, although my choice at DCA always tends to be Potbellys! We don't have any of those in NYC, so whenever I can get one of their sandwiches, I will do practically anything.

Great question, and one that we have been getting A LOT. Our next two platforms will be Blackberry and Android. Which of those platforms would the people here like to see first? We plan to make both of these available in 2010 (most likely late 1st half of 2010).

BP888 -
All great suggestions. We definitely have plans to make the app more graphical. Ideally it will offer users the ability to see the amenities in a map or list view. This is a pretty big undertaking to do right, but we do realize that it is an important feature. When we do our next big release (v2.0), it will have maps most likely.
In regards to points 2 & 3, we are currently bringing on board a top iPhone developer who really understands how to leverage the unique attributes of the iPhone for creative features of an application. I hadn't thought of #2 (we have discussed #3) and we certainly will think about the best way to do this in GateGuru.
Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but I primarily use Windows Mobile. I have a HTC Tilt2. Is there any chance you will develop this app for Win-Mo? A app like this would surely sell on the WM marketplace for at least 4.99 going by what most of my fellow users pay for travel apps.

Android!
This is all really helpful for us. From this small, informal test, it sounds like there is more Android demand than we anticipated. Neither platform is as easy to develop for as the iPhone, but we do realize the importance of other platforms and are starting to scale up our efforts in these areas.

Hi El_Chiflero - To be honest, it is unlikely that we will focus on WM anytime soon. Obviously if we want to make GG as ubiquitous as possible we need to get on as many devices and OS(s) as possible, but the WM platform is famously difficult to develop on. We also haven't seen many requests for WinMo. This probably is something we would put on our 2011 roadmap, versus 2010.

Actually, how about a web app? That could more easily support multiple platforms.

Welcome to Flyertalk, Dan - I just purchased the app and will be using it this week! At that price point it's worth a gamble.
Quick request - ability to sort by ratings so if I'm in an airport with tons of options to eat, an option to sort by rating score so I can just glance at the top-rated ones rather than have to scroll down the list and remember what other ones I saw earlier in the list.
Nice UI.

International airports. It's easier to get around domestic airports if you're lost. You can always ask someone who works there. Without knowing local languages, when you need something, you have no one to ask.

Another vote for WinMo here.
What demographic are you targeting? Most of the business travelers I see have BBs, and they tend to fly more. Has Android made it into the corporate sphere or is it mainly people's personal other phone? I'd vote for BB over droid for the next move, but wouldn't buy either since I'm on WinMo.

We are not against web apps at all, but for various reasons (mostly around ease of distribution) we decided to go after the iPhone platform. By no means are we attached to a native client app model for GateGuru, but right now, that is where it is easiest to start to scale a business. I could easily see GateGuru also leveraging a web app, but I don't see that happening in the next 12 months.

That is a great suggestion / request and one that we had not thought about. We will definitely look to get that functionality into the app in the short term.

The business traveler is definitely our core market, however we have priced the product at a point such that anybody who travels 1x a year or more might find it useful. Most business travelers are on the BB, so that was originally going to be our next device / OS hands down, although through forums like these, we are realizing there is more demand for an Android version than we had anticipated.

Please, please PLEASE don't the hypsters make the mistake of divurging from the BlackBerry platform as your next step. Android is "cool" but the BB is a serious money-maker. I'm willing to pay more - particularly with an International version - that what you're asking today.

Well, Blackberry is the #1 smartphone platform in North America, and #2 behind Nokia worldwide, so if you want to reach the most people I think the answer is obvious ;) BB > Android + Apple combined, IIRC.

Yes, an international version is definitely high on our list - we should have something out in mid-2010International makes me think of LHR... wouldn't that place need an app all to itself?
Here's an idea. Instead of covering all airports (or maybe you still do, but don't play it up), feature the worst, and name the app AIRPORTS FROM HELL. People might be willing to try, and pay a lot more than $1.99, for an app that focused on the toughest airports to get around, the worst customs & baggage facilities, etc.
LHR & CDG quickly come to mind. :D
(But if you named it "AIRPORTS FROM HELL" I have a feeling you wouldn't get much cooperation from the airports involved)

I vote for the Android. This year, in the 1st quarter, they sold more androids than iPhones. (Found that while searching for comparisons between the 2 phones). There are several great Androids coming out this summer. We're switching from the Windows format to Androids when our phone contracts run out and looking for apps.

I think iPhone sales typically drop off as the time gets closer to announcing the new one. Q3 will be the telling one.
