I tried a search and the most recent thread I found was almost 5 years old.
I was wondering does Hertz accept a debit card to reserve a car? Do you have to me a member of Gold #1 to do this?
I saw something about a credit check on their site. What happens if you don't pass? (I won't)
If I can't rent from Hertz are there any debit card friendly companies out there?
Thanks in advance.

If you are renting in the US then Hertz will accept a debit card at the beginning of the rental subject to a credit check. You do not need to be a #1 Club member. However, your credit score will be obtained from Equifax. If you don't pass then you will not be allowed to use the card.
I think the only major brand that will accept debit cards without a credit check (or that doesn't just flat out reject them) is Enterprise (This would not include National, though). I believe they still have a policy where they will accept a debit card provided that you can produce a round trip ticket (if arriving at an airport) or two documents that prove that you live at the address you say you do (e.g. Utility bill, telephone bill - note, that the two documents have to be from two separate sources). This would be in addition to your driver's license.
Again, I think that is still the policy at Enterprise so call them if that is the route you will be taking.

Another option you may want to consider is looking into getting a secured credit card. I don't think numbers on secured credit cards show up any differently to Hertz so they should be accepted without a credit check.
