National - Rentals that span the new year

Does anyone know how National counts the days/rentals for rentals that span the new year (e.g., a 2-week rental that is from the last week of 2009 through first week of 2010)? Do all the days count towards one year (if so, which?)? Or, split according to calendar days? Also, for the rental credit, which year does it go towards?

The date the rental starts, is the month/year it is credited. Sorry you won't get any credit for 2010.

I also believe you're credited on the day the rental ends, but to be certain would suggest you call the National Emerald Club toll free phone number and ask (although in the past I have on 2 separate occassions been given 2 different answers by them).
