Flying tomorrow DCA-CLT-NAS
Atlantis for the weekend.
I am CP, gifted wife SP, and daughter NADA.
All three of us were upgraded to 1st in the Chairman's window.
Is that normal
I thought I was going to have to split the PNR and have Daughter and I upgrade in CP window and then wife in SP.

If you're all on the same PNR, the upgrade window is the highest in your group. Hence yours... assuming availability.

Here is the info you're looking for from USAirways.com:
"Chairman’s, Platinum, Gold and Silver Preferred members can request a companion upgrade for one companion traveling on the same itinerary with a qualifying paid ticket. Companions will be upgraded based on Preferred status and time of request. If you're booked on the same reservation, we will process upgrades for both you and your companion based on your Preferred status. "

Yes, but I thought that the OP would only get one companion UG'd. How did he get two companions UG'd?

He got the upgrade because each preferred member can have one companion. There were two preferred members (1 chairman, 1 silver) and one companion in the same reservation. The upgrade occurs at the time of the highest status in the reservation.

That's actually very interesting if it works that way. Is it possible then that a CP and a silver both w/ non-elites could get 4 U/G's at the CP window if on the same PNR? that is crazy.

i am plat, wife is silver, son (2.5 yrs old) is nada.
we're all flying together chs-clt-sfo (+ return) in decmeber. i had to call in to make the reservation, as we used my wife's dm mc $99 companion voucher for two of the tickets (mine and son's).
i inquired about maximizing upgrade possibilities at tht time i made the reservation, and the plat desk person told me that we should split the reservation into to separate pnr's, which he did. i'm on one pnr with my son, and my wife is on a separate pnr.
i have been figuring that if son & i get upgraded at the plat window, i'd call in and use miles to upgrade the wife. maybe i could have simply left us all on on pnr and saved the miles....?
anyone know if "splitting the pnr" is reversible?
btw, i apologize in advance to anyone seated in fc with all of us on either transcon.... i haven't yet mentioned that we have also have a 2 month old lap child who'll be making the trip with us. the 2.5 year old is well-traveled and (usually) quite well-behaved on airplanes, but this is the little one's first rodeo.... :p

I'm pretty sure you can combine PNR's if you call US. I would think that you can combine them and see if it clears at the plat window. If it doesn't you can then call and split the res and get you and your son U/G then have your wife clear at the Silver window.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought this would be about upgrading the Windows 7! LOL!
Regardless of how many folks travel in my party, I always split into multple PNRs so it's one person per PNR. That way if there is one upgrade seat, at least one of us can clear. Also, no such thing as merging PNRs.
The situation the OP encountered is not the norm. One companion per status regardless of many other elites in the reservation. No such thing as highest status prevails. That's only in zone boarding. A party of three should split to 2 and 1 or even 1, 1, and 1 for better upgrade chance.

Can other Chime in about this? I assumed that there was no such thing as the highest status prevailing but I'm a CP and my partner and father are both SP. We're traveled in groups of three or four ( CP, SP, and general member or two ) and we have been upgraded at the Chairman's window each of the three times we have traveled together since September. This all happened automatically and with us all on one PNR. Out of convenience I just booked our travel together and figured I could call the CP desk if I needed to split the PNR up. Has something changed - can anyone confirm?

You can't merge a PNR but the status of the first person in the reservation does dictate the window.
