It's interesting to see that Midwest and Virgin America both tied for first place. I can't keep all of these surveys straight, but if memory serves me correctly Midwest has actually improved its ranking from a year ago which is quite impressive all things considered.

Midwest will get a lot of play out of this, between the publicity and the acknowledgement of the award in their spots.

Ratings are based on comfort, service and food. If Midwest's mediocre web rating were included, they would not have tied with Virgin America for the #1 rating..

Per Midwest, this is their eighth consecutive award.

Zagat ratings now posted on Midwest's Twitter, with Midwest listed at the top of the chart. It will not be long before similar is posted on YX website and print ads.

In addition to online places (Twitter, jsonline, milwaukee business journal, etc) it made the news on at least one radio station. Nice to see that Midwest got their press item out hours before anybody else did, perhaps showing a sharper, faster PR response than Midwest was known for.

Background: Each airline was separately rated on Zagat's signature 30-point scale on its premium and economy class service for both domestic and international flights. The airlines were rated on four aspects of their performance: (1) Comfort, (2) Service, (3) Food and (4) Website. Other issues such as Value, On-Time Performance, Luggage Policy and In-Flight Entertainment were also covered.

I saw the same grid of detailed-by-category results I assume your'e referring to, although I can't seem to find it anymore. Their methodology must not be a simple mean or average for I don't think any of them came out to their total score doing a simple mean. Website much not be weighted as much.

I agree with you about YX PR being more "ready on the spot," as far as getting the word out, in a timely manner. They also seem to be trying to be more proactive, than reactive, lately.
