Can anyone help - we are a group of 10 connecting from ETH to LHR via TLV and we have 5 hrs to kill in Ben Gurion but aarrive in T1 and then check in in
T3. We are therefore landside. I know there is the Mcdonads and that Shawarma place airside but is there any where nearby we can go for a good sit down lunch thats kosher (rabbanut is ok)? Maybe Yehud or Or Yehuda, without risking the Tel Aviv traffic?
Thanks
Ok its in Ramat Gan sort of TA, but theres an El Gaucho which is suppose to be excellent. Ive always promised myself my next trip over Im going but still havent gotten there Its a SteakHouse and Glatt
Its by the Diamond Exchange which is right off the Ayalon on the Right side , while TA is on the other side

Depending on the time of day, there is a risk of spending quite a bit of the 5 hrs in traffic if they go to the bursa area of Ramat Gan. Sorry I don't have other suggestions, maybe there is something at Airport City.

You can take a bus to the airport city industrial area. There is a new shopping center right on entrance where they have a brand new food court that is Kosher.
Going to Tel Aviv, you can take the train and therefore not be in traffic problems. There are a couple of Kosher restaurants in Azrieli center and another food court.
It's quite Pathetic that in the whole airport, there's no kosher restaurant, I assume that is because they are open on shabbat.
Is it not worth for at least one resteraunt to close on shabbat, in order to have all the kosher eating passengers?

TLV is not a connecting airport and on 95% of the flights out of TLV food is served so there is not much need for a real restaurant in the airport anyway - this is why all the best you can find is a McD or Shawarma. There are some Kosher options in TLV but they are all airside.

You can find lots of "al Ha'esh" (Israeli BBQ) places in Or Yehuda with Hechschers.
You can take a taxi from the airport , going into Or Yehuda either from highway 412 or 461. The best known one is Etzel HaTurki at 2 Ha Rishonim St Tel 03-5331352. There are others too
For high quality dairy you could go to either, Trieste in the Savyon Commercial center Tel 03-7363399 (turn right from highway 461 at the Savyon Junction, Paz Gas Station) or to Don Vito, on highway 461 near the entrance to the Tel Ha Shomer base 03-6345833

There was talk a few months ago about there being permission granted for a Mehadrin restaurant IIRC.

Train to Tel Aviv is relatively frequent (twice an hour or even more) and relatively reliable for an Israeli train. For about 12 NIS or so, you get to Tel Aviv relatively fast, independent of traffic.
While this may not be the best option, take the train to TLV, get off at Hashalom (the Azreali center), and go to the Yotveta Ba'air restaurant (or any of the other restaurants there).
Make sure to leave sufficient amount of time to hop on a taxi in case the train goes crazy (which happens once every while).

You can also take the train in the other direction and grab a bit in Modiin. The mall is about 200 or so meters from the train station. There is a food court with Burger Bar, Pinati Houmous and a kosher McDonalds. Also you have branches of the various coffee shops including Aroma, Cafe Hillel and Cup O'Joe. Some of the coffe shops have free Wi-Fi to make your 5 hours pass even quicker.

Actually Azriely has two very good kosher meat restaurants - Bruno's and C2.
Both are quite expensive, C2 in particular. If you do go to C2 call in advance and book a table with a view - it's on the top floor of the round tower.

^^ Good idea about Modiin. Didn't think of that. The OP should check the train times as they are not that frequent and should leave some delay time

C2
That is 2C, not C2. 2C is short of 'To See' - quite a name for a restaurant on the top floor of the tower.
Azrieli also has a Kosher Papagaio (Brazilian).
About the trains to Modiin - Ben Gurion airport is a stopover on the Modiin-Haifa route so all the daytime trains between Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion airport continue to Modiin.

I'd go for the Kosher Papagaio rather than 2C, unless you want the view, because the food there was poor the last (and only) time I ate there.

Papagaio's food is nothing special in my eyes. Good value though if you just want to eat a lot and not pay too much.
I enjoyed 2C when visited last (and only) time.

I enjoyed 2C when visited last (and only) time.I second that, and I would add Mitos to the list.
They have excellent value business lunch deals.

Craz - I had fond memories of El Gaucho from my first trip to Israel in 1989; when I took my daughter there (the Haifa location) this summer, I think the food they served may have been in the freezer for 20 years waiting for me. I agree with others: you can do better.
I went to Bruno in Azrieli this summer also (with family who don't keep kosher). The service was poor, but the food was ok. Getting there and back on time could be tough, though.

To add another option to the list - Pasha on Haarbaa St (about 5-10 minutes walking from Azrieli-Hashalom train station or 3 stops on bus #63) - an excellent Turkish kosher restaurant.
TLVFred - please come forward and tell us on which time of the day you plan this tour and meal. This will help a lot with planning.

Many thank Guys thats so helpful.
We arrive at 11.30 at T1 and have a flight out of T3 at 1640.
We are a group of 10 all flying BA in Club (incl 5 kids age 6-14). We normally fly LY (I am coming to TLV next week in F) but have run out of miles on LY since the new 350 miles u/g needed instead of 200. Anyway we are on BA miles on this trip.
Never knew airport city existed. Looks great on the website but could only find acaffe on there. Good to see a proposed hotel as well.
I know connections are rare at TLV by LY are actively marketing LHR-BKK here in London and since the ceasing of LHR-OVDA, all Eilat UK tourists have to connect at TLV, hence our stop over.
Have been to 2C and very good. Problem is luggage. I know BA only open desks 3 hrs before (or is it 4). I suppose I could use the Shalom service and get a minibus and they could take us to azreili baggage and all and wait for us and bring us back. Train not an option with group and bags unless there Shalom can store bags??
Thanks again for your help. Hope BG open up an upscale restaurant in the future

Why aren't you simply checking the luggage through all the way to BKK?

Just in case your plane is late or you decide to stay at TLV there is a kosher meat restaurant called CAMUN both landside and airside. It might be the schwrama place place you refered to, but if you are stuck in the airport you could go there
