According to these sites:

http://www.climatetemp.info/guatemala
http://www.world66.com/centralamericathecaribbean/guatemala/guatemalacity/lib/climate

most of the rain falls from May through October. December through March are dry - the graph shows quite a contrast. (November and April are transition months.)

Your friend can also expect a high temperature averaging around 72F (22C) and a low of 47F (13C).

This is for Guatemala City. Guatemala is a pretty big country, about 42,000 square miles (109,000 square km) and considerable altitude difference between the seacoast and the interior highlands. If your friend is going to be somewhere else, its weather patterns may be a bit different.

What part of the country will you be visiting? I'll be there for new year as well.

The days around New Years eve will be spent in Rio Dulce, with the days before and after in La Antigua and in Guatemala City.

My friend had to change the dates of travel and is now going end of March which also looks good for weather. His plan is to do a week between Belize in Guatemala. Specifically he wants to do a few days at a nice beach in Belize and than head to Tikal in Guatemala to see he sites.

I am thinking he should try and a ticket that does BOS-BZE-FRS-BOS (recognizing the BOS flights will not themselves be direct)

A couple of questions we have at this point

1) Any recommendations for a nice hotel/beach in Belize?

2) Do the do Tikal tours out of Belize that would include transportation?

3) Is 3 days enough time for both places? He wants to have some relaxation time as well as see some great archaeological sites.
