Air Berlin offers now at least some kind of a lounge at their homebase in Tegel for Golds, Silvers and C-Class pax. They opened the terrace above gates 2 to 3 for premium pax exclusively with a lounge dragon, two flatscreen, a vending machine, free coffee, plenty of space and power outlets. I was told, there shall be more service in future.

Good news. Hope they would try to find a similar solution also for DUS.

Is this any change to before unless they now seem to restrict access?
The terrace was establashed since about a year now, open for all passangers.
Is there any additional service or still everything like before?
Thanks for clarification.

This is not helpful.

This is not a Lounge.

What is the definition of a lounge? It gives me free drinks, takes me away from the crowds and is sufficient for the 15 minutes I stay there before boarding my 29 to 65 Euro flight with free exit row, drinks and newspapers.

Could you give me/us some more information about this 'lounge'?

Where exactly can I find it (unfortunately I've only been once at Berlin Tegel, so I'm not familiar with it)?
Is it still open? Did they improve their service (because you said there should be more service in the future)?
I cannot find any information about it on airberlin.com. :(

Did they already offer free drinks when it was still open for ALL passengers (see lemieux66' posting)?

Thank you! :)

to give you an update on this:

By now, I used the "new" lounge-area a few times and enjoy it as a small benefit, though it´s not a lounge in the classic intention.
The lounge can be accessed only via gate A00 - 03 (or was it A00 - A02 ?).
So it depends on your flight, if you can use it or not.
Any passanger not departing from those gates cannot access the lounge-area.
The lounge-area is located on a balcony overlooking the waiting area and is restricted by a barrier which automatically opens when slipping through your gold or silver card.
There is no staff at this area, but a vending machine offers free soft-drinks (no snacks) and theres a huge spread of complimentary newspapers and magazines.
You have comfortable seating areas and plug inns for notebook and cell phones.
So nothing extrodanary or luxurious but nice and relaxing.
Only downside is the hit and miss situation if your flight offers the possibility to use this lounge.
Normally you get to know your gate a few hours prior to your flight, so you cannot be sure of using the lounge.

I actually have to agree that it is not the Lounge we know from other carriers, but I must absolutely admit that this is all I need for the short stay before I can board my flight:
Relaxed place with comfortable seat, a quick free drink (actually think the 0,5l bottles are too big because I can hardly finish them), a newspaper/magazin selection and the possibility to load my computer batteries or mobile phone.

So I am absoulutely happy and hope Air Berlin will extend the offer at other airports as well...

Air Belrin is planning a brandnew lounge with all we expect from a real lounge for the new Berlin-main-airport in Schönefeld which is under construction already, but will be finished not before 2014 or so.

So we´ll have to show some patience meanwhile.
