I was hoping someone had recently rented a mid-sized SUV in the NW or at PDX and could tell me what the options are. Being it's thrifty I assumed it will be a Jeep Liberty or Dodge Nitro. But I see the web site says a Ford Escape or similar.
Are most 4WD?
Do you select your own vehicle from the row at Thrifty or are you assigned a vehicle?
I am usually a Hertz renter and am 5* there but Thrifty's price can't be beat for two weeks around Christmas so I am being tempted.
I called the PDX location and found out information from a helpful employee.
1. Mid-sized SUV are a split between Ford Escapes and Jeep Liberty's. Very few Dodge Nitro's are on-site also.
2. Almost all SUV's are 4WD.
3. Thirfty at PDX assigns you to a vehicle, you do not pick your own car out of a car class.
4. I also found out if you're a bluechip member and you rent for 16 days total you get one free day. It's not separate rentals like Hertz. Bluechip members are also offered 50% off upgrades.
I am going to sign up as a bluechip member and give Thrifty a chance this time. It's more economical than hertz and frankly the last three vehicles I've had from Hertz all had check engine lights on and over 40K miles.
