if a girl sits next to a guy on a flight is she "interested" in him?
I know it sounds silly but my roommate in college would swear that any time a girl sat next to us on spring break trips she wanted him in a bad way. I'd usually book a middle seat to ensure no woman would have to deal with his antics!;)

LOL.... now, that is silly.

Believe it or not, oftentimes, airlines do assign men and women to sit beside each other.... they do not do an "interested" survey first.... :)

In that case, they deserve what they get sitting beside them.... :)

Your roommate is living in a fantasy world.

ETA: Thanks for protecting the real world from him.

You can pass this message on to your roommate: I am a woman. I don't pay much attention to whether I'm sitting next to a man or woman. I pay a lot more attention to whether I'm sitting in a great seat. If I'm on an airline where you pick your seat upon boarding, I'm sitting next to your roommate not because I'm interested in him, but because he doesn't look as if he'll bother me for the duration of the flight. In other words: I'm sitting next to him because I'm not interested in him.

Well, he's young yet. ;)

I predict that ten years from now, he will be in the group that, when seated next to a woman, grab the armrest for the entire journey.

Oh, did I just cough on you? Is my oversized handbag in your way? What do you think of soap operas? Do you watch Dr. Phil? Would you like to buy life insurance? Discuss your problems? Oh, dear, did I step on your foot? My own life story. . . .
:D

That's funny because I always thought that if a guy sat next to me that meant he was interested in ME :D

this might be one of those situations where gender differences might be a factor. With the exception of our fellow gay (MM) travelers this actually could be conceivable!

I don't like talking random chit-chat so I agree with chgoeditor. I pretty much always have a preassigned seat, but if I had to board in the B group on WN I'd probably choose to sit next to a business traveler reading the newspaper or a clean looking person reading a book. They tend to not blast their music or talk much.

Hey it's cool, so was I! :D In fact, I usually would think that people next to me would be anything but interested!

Man that guy has some serious delusional issues. Or ego. He's either really hot (and knows it) or fat and pale and hairy and in denial.

As a woman who often travels alone, if I am on a flight where my seat has not been assigned (like WN), I choose to sit next to a person who looks most likely to leave me alone -- someone reading, not hogging the armrest, not looking interested in a hookup or date! Often it's a man, simply because they tend to be less "chatty" with strangers on a long flight, in my own experience...

if a girl sits next to a guy on a flight is she "interested" in him? Of course she is. Seatguru.com is the frequent flyer's Mile High Club match maker. You knew this, right?

as a 20-something woman it seems rare that other 20-something women talk to me if they are better dressed than I am. I travel in dress pants and a blouse, but i'm no label snob and my hair is in a pony tail so many other traveling women do tend to dress better. Women in their 40s that i've sat next to tend to talk more and women over 60 seem to be very social towards me. I was seated in the window with my ear buds in listening to the IFE when a 50ish couple sat next to me. They kept asking further details of where i live, but assuming my answer. "what part of clt, the university area?", "i live in the xxx area". "Oh, over by yyy" "no, that's not really in xxx, i live on the other side by xxx village". "oh, so you're in an apartment?" "no, there aren't many apartments in xxx". Despite my string of rude comments and having to take out my ear bud and have her repeat every question this went on for about 10 minutes before she started talking to her husband.

There are some smooth talking men out there and since i don't like to talk to strangers I don't really like sitting next to them.

I remember years back a newspaper article on the number of proposals that began from people meeting on WN on commuting flights between DAL-HOU. People tend to be on same flights weekly, wait at same airport bars, meet, fall in love.

Outcome: Now their kids are commuting back to daddy on the weekends. :D Lots of commuting kids and kid FF today between DAL-HOU on Friday night on the divorce-kid bird.

If you a) leave the better seat to him and b) make the sacrifice of a center seat and c) do so in order to shield him from other women while d) making up the sorry excuse that you want to protect the women from him, it seems to me that you are (or were) actually into him! :D

The idea of airlines mixing men and women on purpose is interesting. I have often thought so. Especially when I am sitting next to the best looking female in my potential age range on the aircraft. Funny enough, that happens on about every other flight I take. I usually flirt a little with her which she seems to enjoy since she always flirts bag. Just a matter of being a good sport. Nothing would irk an attractive woman more than being seated next to an attractive man and being ignored. ;)

He sounds like the idiot who worked for me once.

Told me that "X" is interested in me because she keeps coming to my cube. I pointed out that I had "X" sitting in his cube because I was OUT of space and he had NOTHING to do with it. (He didn't last long. His future wife found out he was working with a bunch of women and made him quit LOL!)

Did X get to keep the cube to herself? :)

So when the FA asks your friend if he'd like a drink, does that mean she (or for that matter, he) is also interested in him? :p
