Last two times, one at SYR and one at TUS, I got a lower class car than what I booked. What people recommend I should do before leaving the lot? Both instances, they claimed they are out of the class I booked. (A full and a Premium).

Ask to speak to a manager. Its a lot easier dealing with it while you are there. They should be able to give you an upgrade into an SUV etc (assuming you wanted one). Failing that, call customer service. At the very least you should get a voucher for either upgrade or a discount on a future rental, or a credit on the current one.

Since they didn't bother to volunteer a credit reduction to the rate, I would demand a free day for future rental.
