Hi
I'm about to book my first flight with Emirate and am looking for some advice. We (me age 37, daughter age 6 and mother age 78!) will travelling from Glasgow to Brisbane via Dubai at the end of June for 4 weeks.
On the way out its fine, 2.5 hour stop over in Dubai and then a stop in Singapore as well (not sure for how long and can you get off here). However on the way back we will be leaving Brisbane at 02:45 and get into Dubai (stop in Singapore again) about luchtime but the flight to Glasogw is not unitl 07:50am the next day. After searching the net I've found we will probably be intitiled to a hotel stop over and that |I need to contact customer services to arrange this.
I've a few questions about this:

What hotels do EMirate use (ecomony class)
Do we need to pick up our lugguage or is it straight through to Glasgow
I', presuming it will be very hot in Dubai in July- is there a mall nearby we could have a quick walk round?
How safe is Dubai for 2 woman and a young child?

Think that is me for now
Thanks in adnvance for any help

What hotels do EMirate use (ecomony class) Millenium Airport (Emirates Wing)
Do we need to pick up our lugguage or is it straight through to Glasgow I would pick it up - they wil tag only to DXB at Check in
I', presuming it will be very hot in Dubai in July- is there a mall nearby we could have a quick walk round? Dubai Festival City is about 5-7 min by Cab as is Diera City Centre
How safe is Dubai for 2 woman and a young child? VERY!!

The hotel used for economy passengers is The Millennium. Your baggage should be checked all the way through to Glasgow so no need to pick it up. (That has been my experience) There are many world class malls in Dubai and taxis are plentiful. I have always felt safe in Dubai, as I do in Glasgow, but as in any large city it probably pays to be aware of personal security. I am sure others will be able to give you a more detailed response.

As a Scot who has lived in the UAE and in other parts of the Gulf since 1980 I would choose Dubai over any Scottish city (or any other major town or city in the UK for that matter) in respect of personal safety. You will have more trouble adjusting to the heat than anything else.

Check luggage through to Glasgow, picking up luggage, then re-checking again is a hassle.
Dubai Festival City is a good place to hang around.

Ok.... thanks to everyone for their help.
Jus phoned Emirates and have been told because there is a shorter connection time we would not be intitled to a hotel. However the earlier flight is on the Airbus so straight through with no stop in Singapore. I think this 15 hour flight will be hard going for my mum (78) and daughter (6).
If I were to stick to my orginial plan and have the 20 hours or so in Dubai how much would I expect to pay for accomadation, food etc.
There is £130 difference in price so want to see if it is worthwhile

You might get into Somerset Jadaf suites for about 150US (they have some specials now) it's about 10 minutes from the airport; Dubai festival city is on the way to the airport from the hotel.

Or you can try any of the Golden Sands Apartments in Bur Dubai, AED850 will get you a 3 bedroom apartment.

We got the Le Meridien (opposite the airport) for £50 a night this July. It's a great 5* hotel. The Al Bustan Rotana (next door) can also be had for a similar amount. July is the low season in Dubai, so hotels are very cheap.

Cheers,
Rick

Thanks to everyone for there thoughts, I've spent the whole day looking at options- my head is spinning.
I've just got a quote from Trailfinders for the 3 flights (2 adults 1 child) plus accomadation for 1 night in Dubai at the Hilton Dubai Creek plus private transfers for £2166, about £80 more than Emirates website is offering me for the flights alone.
Has anyone stayed here- whats it like, is there a mall or something nearby, where is there to eat.
Sorry for all the questions- want to make sure I get this right.
