Arriving from Cairo at 3:15pm and my preferred domestic connection is Delta at 5:15. I'm a US Citizen. Is this too optimistic? This is my first time on this forum, I apologize in advance for any breach of etiquette,

IF your plane lands on time, and IF you're not checking a bag, and IF it's one ticket, and IF Venus & Saturn are aligned, you'll make it. If you are checking a bag, then all bets are off. Here's what you'll have to do after your land:
Go through customs
Wait for your bag (if applicable)
Leave T4 and either walk to T3 or take the AirTrain there.
Check in at DL's counter.
If you are checking a bag, note that even for a domestic flight, DL requires the bag be checked 60 minutes in advance for a JFK flight. And if it's separate tickets and you miss the cutoff, DL doesn't have any responsibility to rebook you (they'd probably make you pay $50 for their same-day confirmed program.)
In short...I wouldn't try it.
Oh, and welcome to FT!
