What have people's experiences been trying to use AS miles to get business class seats to Asia on Cathay Pacific? I am shooting for a LAX-HKG-DPS trip in April. Also, does Cathay allow you to have a stopover in their hub like Air France does?

This is a relevant thread. 'cx' works as a search term, too.

CX availability is pretty poor, IME, esp for premium cabins. KE seems to have excellent availability, incl for premium cabins. NW also has pretty good availability IME.

I have had good luck with CX, but it does take a bit of research. In the past I have booked YVR-HKG-AKL and retrun in J. In January I have a SFO-HKG-BKK and return in F. Both trip were for 2 so it can be done.
I would suggest signing up for an Asia miles account and you can search for award availabilty from there. It will make everyone's life easier when you can the AS partner desk.
Yes CX does allow for a stop-over in HKG.
what is an "Asia Miles Account", and how do I sign up for one? thanks!

I don't know how well this availability matches what you can actually book using AS miles though.

So far I am batting 1000 on Asia miles vs AS availabilty.

Good to know, we are getting ready to start looking for availability to South Africa and Asia Miles is showing a fair amount in F for 2 tickets. This would be preferred to BA, since we have been using miles with them in the past and are looking for somthing new (and lower fuel surcharges).
