I'm flying SAS to BKK next week, and have a few questions I was hoping someone here could answer?
1. Does SAS have fast-track trough immigration on arrival and/or departure for C class pax?
2. Is the new mono-train line opened from the airport and down-town?
3. Anybody travelled with SK in C to/from BKK recently that can reveal what the menu is like?
Thanks for your help?^

1) Arrival: No F T. However, if ques are long (mostly they are not) try to sneak into the Diplomat lane which TG C and F class passengers are using. This has been discussed in the TG forum.
Departure: Yes, I think you will be given a pass for the F T immigration. This is a great help as ques are very long in the evening.
2) No.
3) Sorry, no recent expirience.

As its a late flight you get a "supper" which means a relatively quick service, but you still get a good amount of food (The only thing missing is the snack that normally arrives after the first cocktail.... Perhaps the starter is also a little smaller). Here is a pic of the tray I got in C on a flight at the beginning of October (excuse the picture quality, it was late and I did not want to use a flash.);
From memory it was some cold smoked fish on the left, and a pork fillet, potatoes, greens and a nice sauce for the entree. Desert is usually petits fours.
If I recall correctly there was a fish (perch perhaps) option and a vegetarian lasagna.

Hi Kjsaw,
Thanks for posting the photo ^
Great to see that SAS bothers to remove the cheap looking plastic wrap from the dish on the left :td: Can also see there is another plastic wrap that you had to remove from one of the other dishes...
Were all the courses served on one tray at the same time or individually as with most other airlines in C?
Classy touch by SAS

Since SK between CPH and BKK is a late departure in both directions, the "big" meal in C is the breakfast, which is a trolley serve with many choices. The late dinner is a single tray serve to allow a quick serving before dimming the lights for the night.

I have heard that there is a shopping center in Bangkok that has its own airline models shop.
Anybody know where/name/adress?

1. On departure, yes. But only for immigration, not security (since security takes place at a later stage when entering the gate areas).
Make sure to get an invitation at check-in.
2. No, but it's getting close.
3. Late dinner with first course, main course (three choices), cheese and petits fours.
Pretty much everything served on one tray, still you'll get a decent amount of food. Then of course there is the nice self-service buffet as well.
Rather decent breakfast service around 90 mins before landing where you choose yourself among the dishes on the trolley.
I have a menu somewhere at home I can post.

As of September 6 this year the security check points were changed at BKK, see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/thai-airways-royal-orchid-plus/991406-bkk-security-checkpoints-changed-sept-6-a.html
Security is now just after immigration and no longer at the gates. There are also new security check points for passengers transferring at BKK.

First, why anyone would want to fly SK to BKK from Norway (with a transit through the shopping-hell that Kastrup has become) when there is a perfectly good direct product from an airline with consistently better service than SK is beyond me. The competitor's swap from A340 to B777 from Oslo is OK and the seats are still nice! Each to his own I guess. ;)
Fast-track on arrival in BKK is a no-no. Inflight service is as described by other posts here: A snack before, hopefully, sleeping. This is followed by breakfast of a more substantial nature. It is good, but not good enough to make me swap to SK.
On the return, the SK ticket will not get you perhaps the best thing about flying with TG from BKK: The massage at the TG spa! That is a lifesaver after a long day in BKK.

Ah OK! Didn't know that, but that's actually very good, never liked the previous set-up.
Does that also mean you don't have to pass security when transiting at BKK?

No, you have to pass security when transiting, for some more details, have a look at this post http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/12405120-post106.html. In the morning, around 06:00 when all the TG flights arrive, the lines can be long. You may read more about this in the TG forum.

There is one key element to this decision, though it doesn't always apply in all cases: price. SK is currently the cheapest * carrier OSL-BKK by far, if you can live with restrictions. Couple that with the double basic points promos and quite a few EB members find this a compelling option, e.g a Norwegian EB member secure gold on a return in biz with double status points promo.

I could not disagree with you more!
After flying TG in biz on 3 flights this summer, I have promised my self not to fly them again until their service is back as it was a couple of years ago. The service on TG in biz is lousy! The quality of food has gone dramatically down, and their wines are tasteless!
When you live outside Oslo i prefer to transit via CPH then via OSl both for the point side, then for the reason of TG not offering domestic connecting flights out of OSL that makes it more expensive and last but not least for the inconvenience on returning via OSL where you have to handle you baggage, go through customs and security and make a new check in instead of relaxing in the lounge at CPH.
And of course as others have mention, price! SK in biz is more then 4 000 NOK cheaper then TG. And as an EBG member, I get 60 000 points on this trip including the campains they have currently.
So if you think a massage at BKK, which I can buy for 200 bath would make me change my mind, I would only say: I dont think so!;)

OK! So if I got everything right it's basically the same set-up as in CPH when arriving from a non-Schengen flight transferring to a Schengen flight.
I think that kind of terminal set-up is better.
Of course it's a pain at times when there are many connecting passenger (I can imagine 6-7 am and 3-4 pm) but it's still nicer to complete it straight away and then you can relax in the lounge and do the duty free shopping without having to worry about any more lines.

Fair point on the lack of interconnectivity between TG and SK on domestic flights in Norway. I heard SK cancelled the deal they had with TG on this, once TG started flying straight to Oslo.
Also fair that SK may be cheaper than TG and offer a killer-EB deal at the moment. Having left both Scandinavia and EB, I must admit I pay little attention to these. From South-East Asia to OSL, regardless of whether I start the trip in Nepal or in BKK, I have yet to experience SK coming out trumps.
And I still think you must have hit the bad-luck equivalent of a royal straight flush with your three reported bad TG flights this summer. I did the BKK-OSL roundtrip again last week, and could not be more pleased with service and food. I still shudder at the thought of SK offering meatballs in C-class. If I want IKEA-food I go to IKEA and buy it for something like 200 baht... ;)
Anyways, glad you have found a carrier you feel comfortable with.

Well my last 3 flights in C with SAS (CPH-NRT-CPH and ARN-ORD) have been great. The seats on Thai is better but SK beats LH on these routs. would have been my other option. But on the food. Wow the food have been just great! In think that SAS really worked with the food issue and the new meal service in business is just great. Way better than many other staralliance carriers.
