Las Vegas - Bette Midler Ending Run At Caesars January 31
As per this article (http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS205222+05-Nov-2009+PRN20091105), Bette Midler will give her final performance at Caesars on January 31.
The article makes it sound like the happy end to a happy time, however the local news reported that ticket sales have been slow, and that Bette has not exactly been a team player when it comes to local charity events and other activities in Las Vegas.
So if you want to see her before she leaves, order those tickets soon.

I'll take a pass on the tickets. Perhaps they can rotate in acts with actual talent instead of just recycling has beens.

Saw this last Feb.-Fantastic show with great energy.Great staging and Bette Midler puts on an amazing show!
But it is still just a one woman show and the life of any show like that can only be so long.
If you can get to see it do so.Highly recommend this show ^

...Bette has not exactly been a team player when it comes to local charity events and other activities in Las Vegas.
Why should that matter? Are they really marketing toward locals such that this type of PR would make a difference?

Seen Bette and Cher, Bette's show was great. Cher's sucked.
I can see why she's ready to be done. The effort she gave out is tremendous, and at 63, I'm sure exhausting. I imagine that she's got easier ways to pad her bank account.
Jeff Dunham and his puppets arrive next year. http://www.lvrj.com/news/midler-decides-her-show-must-go-on-elsewhere-69359077.html

"Um, Celine Dion ran for what, five years?"
And what else does Celine Dion do?How many movies has she been in?
Totally different type of performance anyway-Celine hardly moved during her show and really counted on stage effects and her backup singers and dancers to carry the show.I was was pretty bored after 30 minutes
Bette is all over the stage and the stage effects backup dancers/singers are there to enhance her performance-they could be taken away and you would have a good show.

Anyone know if there is any way to score cheap tickets for her show? We are going to be out there Saturday thru Tuesday. unfortuantely, we are not big gamblers... so the casino will not be giving them to us.... :)

I believe Bette said she would do 2 years and it would be about 3 months short of 2 years by the end of next Jan. She earns enough for reasonable pension to retire in comfort. What more could a gal want.
Saw her twice last year - Fab show.
Surprisingly, they have not found diva to replace Elton as yet. Maybe there will be a new line up for next year at Ceasars.

The whole purpose of the Vegas/Branson model of shows is that an artist no longer has to tour - they can stay in one place. Which means they're usually tired from years on the road. Which means they're has-beens.

I wouldn't be too quick to judge. Middle America loves him to the tune of over $19MM in tickets sold last year, and a top rated cable show.

Its a different world these days.
Many posters on FT do fly all over the globe travelling for their work and find
- its tiring
- no family life
- no social life
How many people quit these jobs once they have had enough of travelling.
It no different for "Acts".
If an Act is a marketable enough name, the audience will go to see the Act.
I have flown over from London several times with the aim to see Elton (3 times), Bette (twice) and Cher (once). I much prefer to see these Act in Las Vegas rather than the massive stadiums and arenas the good Acts normally perform in.
Also how many people are really at the the top of their game while jumping on and off planes. Its the same for these performers. For Acts who really enjoy performing (rather than are in it for just the cash), while it may mean more repeat performances, it is a chance to perform on a proper stage with great sound and better audience interaction and no hassle for travel. ^

Two words: Garth Brooks
He "retired" a few years back, and Steve Wynn bribed him with a private jet (that he gets to keep after his run at Encore) and will be appearing there 15 weeks per year - but using the jet to go home to his family after these weekend gigs.
