US Airways Dividend Miles - Will this work? Two separate itins that overlap

I've currently got a round trip booked (departs on a Friday) where my return is a Monday morning TPA - CLT at 7AM. Work is interfering and I want to book a separate round trip that will originate TPA - ? around 9AM. This means that I am trying to skip the return from my original ticket and just eat the fare. When I show up to the airport in the morning, I will be booked on two separate flights, both leaving the airport within a 2-3 hour window. Will they allow this?
It's possible the new reservation could show up in the Duplicate Queue the airlines work, which looks for itineraries where the passenger/itinerary match (in theory, trying to avoid bookings which won't be used).
Not sure how often (or if) US works their Dupe Queue, but it could be a problem.

What if you just call US after you land in TPA on Friday and tell them that you want to cancel your return flight? That way, you will no longer have two departing flights from TPA on Monday and you won't get into a sticky (bad pun intended :D) situation.
Removed...had initially read this as back to back ticketing but I don't think it is.

correct - not a back to back
"vacation" which is already booked
Friday CLT - TPA
Monday TPA - CLT
Need to be in ORD on Monday now. So I could book a CLT - ORD round trip, fly my vacation leg on Monday morning and then start a fresh itin later Monday morning.
However, I can fly later AM on Monday than my vacation ticket and still make the meeting, so I would like to book
Monday TPA - ORD
Wednesday ORD - CLT
If I do this, I will have seats on both the 7AM and 845AM flights out of TPA. I would like to just skip the 7AM (which is the return leg, so no worry about cancelling the rest of the itin) and just get on the 845 to ORD.

Just cancel it after you're in TPA so there's no risk - will you not have access to a computer? You can (or at least you could on the old site) cancel an unused portion online.

I'll cancel the one flight once I get to TPA. Thanks for the help!
