US Airways Dividend Miles - Auto Upgrade system assigning bulkhead first?

Anyone else notice this? My last six segmenst have all cleared at the CP window and assigned row 1. As I prefer non-bulkhead I went to the web-siteto see if I could switch. In four cases, the only occupied seats were in row 1, (on 2 segments row 1 was completely full and the rest of the FC cabin was empty). I was able to move to 2c without problem. Is the system doing this on purpose? Is there a way to set a preference for non-bulkhead?

This seems to be the case. I was auto-upgraded a few weeks ago w/ my spouse and called to get row 1 (our preference) and the agent said the system was placing the upgraded passengers in row 1 first. I had not heard that before.
As for the ability to set a preference, I don't know.

In my experience over 3 years, the automated upgrades have always gone in order starting from row 1. Not that if you move yourself out of row 1, you can't move back unless web check-in is open and the row is still open.

I actually noticed the same thing! On my last 6 segments I was put in row 1 every time. I actually like row one on most aircraft, so don't mind. It seems the website is having yet more issues today. I'm flying to Denver Monday and taking my dad along. I was trying to change seats online and I was able to select open seats and "save and close" ... sure enough the seat changes would not only fail to save but would randomly select to different places throughout the cabin every time. I called the Chairman's Preferred desk and was told that something weird was happening and that nobody there could even force our seat assignments to change. I'm waiting for a call back.

I can't recall NOT being assigned Row 1 as a CP!

Two weeks ago, I was auto-UG'ed MCO-PHL in 1F, as a GP.

I seem to always get row 1 on upgrades. I hate row 1 (don't like having to store my laptop bag), so as soon as I get the UG notification, I go in and try to change it.

I hope you're on all of my flights because I love Row 1! I especially like the extra legroom, which allows me to take a window seat while still being able get up to go to the bathroom without having to move/wake make the person next me.
As for having your laptop nearby, I've heard that can be accomplished creatively.

I concur. Majority of my upgrades have been first row - which quickly gets changed. I am one of the folks that likes the last row in F.

Me, either. As an elite, I think I've been assigned row 1 since at least the reservation migration in March 2007.

That's my recollection as well. It was definitely not this way before that migration, at least on the west side.
I like this on trans-cons, as the lack of a head reclining into my laptop outweighs the hassle of all bags in the overhead. I also like knowing that I will definitely have an option on the meal. On short-hauls, I also go online at my 7-day window and change to a row further back.

I flew 3 flights this past weekend and was upgraded on all to 1C, when I went in to change my seats to row 2 or 3 which showed open seats it would not let me? I hate row 1 as storing in o/h is always a problem.
