Starwood Preferred Guest - Do Award Stays qualify for 1000 Point Bonus

I have a quick question and could not find a quick answer.
I am planning to use my Points for a 2 night stay at a Sheraton which normally gives the 1000 Points when I am on a Paid Stay.
This time I am using Points and would like to know if I would get the 1000 Point bonus? I am aware that I will get the 500 Point Platinum Arrival bonus as I have got that in the past when I used Points (before this promotion started).

Your help is very much appreciated.

You earn the 1,000 pts on stays where you normally earn points for paid stays. The answer would be no to your question. You should also verify via the T&Cs.

Now, if you pay for one night and stay the other night on pints, then you can earn the 1,000 pts.

Per the T&Cs: "A qualifying rate is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest program."

Get Closer to Paradise T&Cs (http://www.starwoodpromos.com/starpointbonus/en/tc/?language=en_us&IM=SPG_HP_TL_Language_Q3Q4_STARPOINTBONUS_2009)

Since award stays don't earn points, it won't get you the 1K bonus either.

Hello - Award Stays do earn points on the regular SPG program based on your status! If you book a room on points at a Westin for instance, then you recevie 500 points for staying there on points.

If I am not mistaken the 500 Platinum amenity points are considered bonus points.:)

If I am not mistaken the 500 Platinum amenity points are considered bonus points.:)If you can convince a Starwood agent that the 500 amenity points (or even points for incidental purchases) makes an award stay a "point earning" stay, then more power to you. But I have a strong feeling you would have an uphill battle on that one. ;)

Nope, they're considered a Platinum Ammenity gift. Just like if you were to stay somewhere on an award / points stay, you could still chose one of the other Platinum Ammenity gifts (e.g., free movie, bar credit, photo album or whatever else) in lieu of the 500 points.

Yes, but picking up 500 Starpoints as your Platinum welcome amenity gift of choice does not also mean picking up stay/night credit as well. Preferred (free) Night Award stays are not eligible for the offer mentioned by the OP. ;)
