Has anyone done this before? :O

Is the FHR rate an 'eligible rate'?

No - but yes FHR is an "eligible" rate so you should be able to do it.

AmEx Platinum Card Holder have access to Fine Hotel & Resort Program (https://www134.americanexpress.com/travelfhr/PlatCCSGServlet?request_type=fhr&action=1&lang=en&ctry=us&pdtyp=ccsg&cdtyp=plat). In order to receive FHR rates, reservations must be made through AmEx Platinum Travel Services*).

From my understanding about GP’s eligible rate definition (http://goldpassport.hyatt.com/gp/en/benefits/terms_conditions_details.jsp?content_id=4179&cat_id=16&wt=), I have the impression that this is an ineligible rate:

Dear FlyerTalk Members,

Thank you all for your support of Hyatt Gold Passport. We are always glad to see that so many FlyerTalk members are active members of Hyatt Gold Passport.

The original poster's question in this thread pertains to booking a special discount offer referenced from another website. This is not the same as booking the "hyatt.com" rate. In most cases special offer discounted rates such as this would not be eligible for Gold Passport credit. However, corporate rates, AAA rates, or Hyatt offers such as Gold Passport Bonus points or breakfast offers are all eligible rates.

You can get more information about eligible and ineligible rates at:

If FHR Rate is an ineligible rate, you are not entitled to redeem one suite upgrade award as you [url=http://goldpassport.hyatt.com/gp/en/benefits/terms_conditions_details.jsp?content_id=4190&cat_id=16&wt=]must pay an eligible rate (http://www.goldpassport.com/terms/earning_points_at_hyatt.asp?ssnav=4&gpnav=0[url) (Diamond membership, point 8).

*) Couple of years ago you could book these rate entering 60354 inGroup/Corporate# field. According to this post (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/8244041-post68.html), AmEx requested that hotel chains remove these rates from their sites.

Sorry but I have to disagree on this one (usually you're exactly right about Hyatt's T&Cs).

According to this thread http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt-gold-passport/965839-amex-fhr-rate-not-valid-gp-points.html - Karen posted:

Dear FlyerTalk Members:

Upon review of this thread, I have discovered there may be some confusion as to whether or not the Fine Hotels & Resorts program rate offered through American Express is eligible for Hyatt Gold Passport credit. I want to confirm that when this rate is booked at a participating Hyatt property through American Express Platinum and Centurion Travel, it is eligible for Gold Passport points, stay and night credit.

I hope this information has assisted you in your future travels with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

So AMEX FHR rate is an "eligible" one - as such the Diamond Suite Upgrade "should" work.
