Now have 17 seg and they want to give you paper tickets.

Had a DONE4 with a schedule change that bumped segment count to 17. AA called saying I would now need paper tickets.

Did not have time for this, so I asked if I could fly my first segments (ICN NRT ORD) electronically and worry about paper later. AA RTW slightly confused, but said it should work.

No problems at all in ICN. NRT aagents wanted to do work, but told them I wanted to do this is USA.

Showed up to local airport in USA and a little later walk out with electronic tickets.

Seems like I saved AA a ton of work by avoiding the paper ticket stage.

Makes me wonder why they don't do every paper scenario this way.

I personally would prefer to actually have a paper ticket. Just my $0.02.

+1. You now have something tangible which you can show them in the event of problems down the road.

In the very unlikely event of you losing it you can always get another one printed for a small fee (and signature of an indemnity). The upsides of having something tangible in hand are far more important to me than the possible hassle of losing it and having to get a reprint.

We went the other way; had 20 segment LONE4's booked early last year and downgraded to e-ticket.

After travelling ²/3 of it, we had a six month hiatus before the next flight. It was a simple matter of sending the ticket books with the remaining vouchers to AA and an E-ticket created. The books were returned to us with the remaining vouchers removed and a note to make sure we took the empty books with us as they had the tax breakdown ... not that we were asked to produce it.
