I will be flying on a RTW trip in December. I will be flying HKG to NRT then to HNL.
I looked on SeatGuru and they show 5 versions of the 747.
How do I figure out which version I will be on so I can select the best seat.
Thanks,
Cinnywoo
You can try seat expert. There you will input your flight # and day of flight.

go to the JAL web, download the PDF of the time table. It will give you the aircraft config for your flight number.

I don't think the timetable shows the exact config of the 744. You have to look at the seat map of your flight to find out.

I booked through AA RTW so I haven't figured out how to find my seat map on JAL yet. Is there a way to pull up my reservation?
Thanks,

Aloha Cinny. I'm at NRT now at the lounge on the same routing. Just came in on CX520 and departing soon on JO76. The equipment for today's JO76 is a JAL 744 version K61 (see seat map on seatexpert.com). It's the one where the upstairs is Y, no F and only five rows of J at the front of the main deck. I could not find the aircraft type either before I checked in, but I asked if there were any seats upstairs and they said upstairs was Y and I'm in J. So I guess if your travel agent or airline agent can see that the upstairs is Y then it's a version K61.

You can look it up on the JAL Japan Japanese website. Try to do a dummy booking. Or I can look it up for you if you give me your flight info. However, JAL has way too many 744 configs, equipment switch is possible between now and your flight.
Here (http://www.jal.co.jp/en/aircraft/conf/744.html) are all the 744 configs, three of them have Y class on the upper deck.

All, thanks for the help.
I will be on JAL 736 to NRT and JO 74 to HNL.
My reservations show an AA code share.
Any advice you could give on seats in J would be appreciated also.:)

Is your JL736 flight before or after 1/13/2010? JAL will switch JL735 and 736 to 767-300ER after 1/12 and 1/13 respectively

Mahalo Plenty,
Row 1-3 on JL736 on 1/7. Those are Sky Sleeper seats (old F seats). 2C 3HK are taken.
Most seats on JO74 on 1/8 are taken already. 1AC and 4E are blocked. I would pick those seats but you need status to do so (I like sitting at those nose of 744 and you don't have to climb over passengers to get out :p). 3CK (744 nose) and 9E (bulkhead) are available for non-elites.
