Travel Technology - TelnaMobile- Anyone Try It?View Full Version : TelnaMobile- Anyone Try It? RobertS975 Nov 4, 09, 6:58 pm Frequent ad banners here on FT... I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? http://www.telnamobile.com/ jason8612 Nov 4, 09, 7:43 pm looks interesting. Need something to replace my united mobile mrcamp Nov 6, 09, 5:40 pm Yes. I have telnamobile. I used it in June in Europe nd Africa and it worked as advertised. I forwarded my AT&T number to it and had no problems receiving or making calls. In June they only had Areacodes 786 and a Florida areacode available. They may have more now. Not that the areacode matters much anyway. jason8612 Nov 6, 09, 8:29 pm Is it a callback service like all the others? Do you dial a number and it rings you back? mrcamp Nov 6, 09, 8:31 pm Yes. It uses callback just like the other international sims. Is it a callback service like all the others? Do you dial a number and it rings you back? jason8612 Nov 6, 09, 8:36 pm Ah, but they want my SS number. No thanks. Just another provider that will probably not work how I want to. Sim4travel - didn't work in Egypt and other countries it said it should work United-Mobile - worked, but fell thru 09 - Didn't work in Australia and other places where it said it should Yackie Mobile - also didn't work properly All the money I wasted for intl sims I could of just used for my regular phone mrcamp Nov 6, 09, 8:47 pm Telnamobile is more like postpaid so they have to do a credit check I believe. The sim does not expire and there is no need to topup, they just charge your credit card at the end of the month if you use it. I used it in June, and I got charged for usage that month. Another good thing is you can actually receive sms on the US number. It has worked well for me. Same here. Yackie is still in limbo, UM has gone under. I exchanged my defunct UM sim for telnaMobile. So, I did nt have to pay for the sim. RobertS975 Nov 8, 09, 11:58 am Telnamobile is more like postpaid so they have to do a credit check I believe. Just like it is with any of the other prepaid international sim cards. So you provide your own unlocked quad band GSM phone, and insert their sim card? cordelli Nov 8, 09, 4:08 pm I think it depends on your calling habits. For me, not having free incoming in many places my international SIM does, and having a yearly service charge makes this not worth it at all to me. For other people, it may be a good deal. I don't think there's one right answer for everybody. mrcamp Nov 8, 09, 7:20 pm I agree. It depends on your needs. You can get free incoming in a lot of countries, however, folks that need to reach you would need to pay for long distance (assuming they are calling from the US). On the other hand, you can get a local US DID (just like TelnaMobile is doing), and it does not cost folks calling you from the US anything besides may be minutes usage. Of coursze, you pay to receive the call. I am pretty sure the yearly fee is to cover the cost of the DID. And the cost of the inmcoming call on the DID is to cover whatever it costs the company to forward the DID to the sim. Again, it all depends on usage pattern. For me, being easily reachable without having to dial any long distance number is more important. Even when I had UM+, I had to use a 3rd party (myglobaltalk/voicestick, kall8, les.net etc.) to forward to the UM+ sim then forward my AT&T sim to the that 3rd party number. globalnet Nov 10, 09, 3:13 am Success-Mobile Prepaid USA +1 service with International Roaming I got a SUccess-Mobile SIM card from a friend of mine in the UK who had two of them and it worked well and I simply used it in Australia and when I came back home and was about to travel again I diverted my local cell to my Success-Mobile number and it worked well in Greece, Germany and Russia and the most amazng part was I could use it while flying the Emirates and my friend who is a sailor said thats what they use. May be someone else should try them and confirm. The interesting part is that its prepaid and free incoming SMS ........ mrcamp Nov 10, 09, 3:58 am It sounds like you are advertising your sim card. Anyway, free incoming sms is not a feature unique to your sim card. All international sim cards, actually all sim cards besides sim cards from the USA carriers and may be Canada carriers offer free incoming sms. Roger Nov 10, 09, 4:05 am Also, I found the website which apart from a 'low' annual fee of $20 - which I regard as a high annual fee  - has no information on rates. Oh, and the $65 charge for the SIM. Makes you wonder what they are trying to sell if they're not prepared to tell you their rates. mrcamp Nov 10, 09, 5:14 am I checked out your website. You better get real. Nobody in their right mind will pay $65 for a sim card in this day and age. Well established companies (that have their rates listed) are giving away their sim cards for next to nothing. Personally, I think you are a little late to the ball game. And with your offering, or lack there of, what's the point.
