Something must be wrong, for some of the properties do show availabilities, the LTO non-refundable rate is tripled the BAR.

I just did a few searches and was able to pull up the rates just fine. However, of the rates I've seen, they aren't low enough for me to book a nonrefundable room.

For the hotels I've been looking at, the DAILYL rate is within two or three dollars of the other rates. Nothing special.

I don't know if this is part of the same offer, but since this promo ends soon, too, I thought I''d just tag it onto here.

Yep - had that problem at the Westin Los Cabos, albeit not triple, but certainly higher than the normal rates.

I was able to switch a stay for this weekend to a lower rate (saved $15 before taxes) at the aloft San Antonio Airport. I'm hesitant to book pre-pays for stays much further out so we'll have to see on those...

I searched sale prices (Th-Fr-Sat) in four different cities I'll be visiting...

1) The price was $5 higher than the AAA rate (refundable), about $1 off the best available rate (refundable)
2) The prices was $8 less than the best available rate, but you lose breakfast
3) The price would have been a $30 savings of best available rate, but was not offered.
4) Same price as what I found last week

So no love for me. When a promotion merely wastes your time, I call it a crappy promotion. Although "up to 50% off" does, technically, include 0%, this still seems slimy to me.

Added: Marriott and Hilton have recently had "global rate breaks" and such of 20-25%. That sounds small, but you actually could save money in most cases (I did).

The suggested terminology is accurate. The 'promotional' prices I found for my stays were considerably higher than the rates available to anyone on the internet, without advance purchase.

I have to agree that the rates aren't fantastic. I searched hotels in Indonesia and Thailand and it was hard to see any difference between the regular price and the "up to 50% off" deal.

Doesn't work with nearly all hotels in Italy at any date of any week from now to the end of promotion. BTW, the 4th night free promotion at St. Regis doesn't work in Italy either. I've emailed Starwood on this issue and received the following reply:

I followed-up on this and it seems the property has the applicable rate plans closed for this promotion. I have sent this onto the marketing coordinator for this promotion and she will follow-up with the property.

Apparently someone messed up or the hotels are not willing to cooperate with the marketing department. It amazes me how a big hotel chain like this can still make such a mistake. :(

It is up to 50% off the rack rate. We know from the 50% thread that there is hardly ever a saving even at 50% off. Usually London properties are quite good use for this so maybe someone can check.

Nothing to write home about for many European proprties.

Problems seem to be:

1) Customers have been blessed with really good rates so far this year, especially during the summer months...so the perception is quite biased

2) Business in most of Europe is actually quite solid now and continues to be like this until mid December, when rates in most of Europe become dirt-cheap anyway until ~ Jan. 6-10 in most countries.

No difference in rates for the Le Méridien King Edward in Toronto.

The new discover Le Méridien promo is also useless as I'm only staying one night so no discount. And low and behold the free breakfast is "not available on the dates you requested". Why irritate your customers so SPG?

The new Sheraton Herndon Dulles Airport shows up at $59/night on the OPs link. Thanks! This property is also listed as 1000 bonus Starpoints, plus they just told me that they have free parking (although website says the free parking rate is $79/night).

Not available for my upcoming stay in Asian cities. Sheraton Kauai is $90 cheaper than regular non-refundable rate. But it's good to know the SPG50 rate w/o calling.
