Starwood Preferred Guest - Tricky question about stay credit

I have a quick tricky question.
If I stay three nights, let say, 1st night is paid night, 2nd night is award night, 3rd night is paid night.
In this case, can i get two stay credit legally? :)

YMMV as it entirely depends on how the property is going to post the stay.
It might be considered as one stay due to the 2nd night being an award night.
It might be two if the property has chosen to separate the three nights.

I think I recall a previous discussion of this scenario, where William had said that official policy was that it should count as a single stay, though I believe he also said, as Thyetus does, that in actual practice it's a ymmv situation.
But if official policy says it's one stay, wouldn't the extra stay credit, if received, be at risk of loss if the account is audited?

There is always that possibility, yes.

Here's another stay credit question. I've tried to get the answer on this from the SPG terms & conditions, but I just don't think it's there.
My family & I stayed at the Sheraton Boston last week. I didn't pay for the room (one of the family members I stayed with did), but can I still get credit for the stay? None of my family members have an SPG account. I actually signed up for SPG right before I left, so I've had to submit the hotel bill to their research department. I haven't heard back yet.

Officially, you have to be both the registered guest in the room(s) and pay for the stay yourself. As usual, YMMV, but much less so if this is being submitted as a Missing Credit. Program Services will be using the official position rather than any YMMV you might get otherwise from the property itself.

Is it too late for me to try getting the credit directly through the property? I figure I won't hear back from Program Services for a few more days.

The property might tell you the same thing as Program Services will, but you never know until you ask them.
