Okay, first admission is that i've not flown much in 3 months. but booked two separate business tickets from EDI to LHR tonight and was surprised that i didn't get asked to choose seats. went onto "Manage My booking" (how very BA) and flaffed around looking for the "book my seats" tab. ended up phoning the help line only to be told "no sir, they get allocated at check in". i invited the agent to read footnote 3 to the business booking conditions and lo and behold, he came back and let me allocate some seats across the phone.
But my questions are...
1. when did all this booking stuff take a backward step from us being able to do this online without interference from poorly trained agents?
2. have i missed something on the "Manage My Booking" page that allows this to happen okay?
3. is everyone else phoning in their seat allocation on domestic business class?
ta!

I have never been able to allocate BD seats online ahead of check-in. Always had to call the "help"line to do that (for business class bookings). Now my employer has decided not to use business class so that is no longer an issue.

My travel agency (Amex) lets me book seats in advance (online) if on Y or C tickets with bmi, but that means sadly the bmi website bans me from making any changes (including seats) - only works for the online checkin then.
Mind you, most airlines seem to make it a hassle to book your seat online if you don't buy from their website directly (I'm thinking of when I do bmi bookings I have to ring LH, LX, SQ - though OZ let me book a seat once I signed up for their FFP) - probably doesn't apply if you book directly though!

It is another 'enhancement' caused by the broken functionality of the website. Nothing related to bookings works as it should. Absolutely nothing.
It looks pretty, though ;)

There's such an option (but for bmi operated flights booked through them only). Go into your booking, then select "amend my details". You will see tabs on the right side, next to the flight number; click on each to choose your seat.
Would love to meet a developer who believes seat number is one of passenger details...
