Mileage Run Discussion - Newbie, need UA MR out of SDF
Need 3,600 miles MR out of SDF on UA. I am registered for Double Miles, that should help...
Using Farecompare tool found SDF-DEN through ORD, for $190 AI. Now need help with:
1. Reading rules and booking it. Don't see anything about min stay. all it says:
For -LHL type fares Permitted 22NOV 09 through 23NOV 09 or 26NOV 09 through 27NOV 09 or on 02DEC 09 or 12DEC 09 through 15DEC 09 or on 25DEC 09 or on 01JAN 10 for each trip.
So, run on Nov 22-23 should be valid? Can't do it on ua.com
While farecompare shows the price I can't seems to find that price bookable...
2. How do I (should I?) add segments to this run?
Thanks.
if you get 500 mi minimum [i assume ua has it, you could add on den-cos-den for another 1k bis....good luck...

OK, going through farecompare rules + itasoftware + expedia (using TYN points for the ticket) found a fare of $213 SDF-DEN:
12/13 SDF (7:45a) -ORD, ORD-DEN (10:54a), DEN (1:49p)-ORD, ORD-SDF (9:25p). Done in one day, which is good.
I know it's not perfect @ ~4.5c per mile (counting DBL miles), but gets the job done for about $200.
Now the question still remains: is there a way and how do I add additional segments to the trip? Can I do that on TYN travel site or I will need to call them?
Thanks.

Force additional segments on your trip using ITA:
O:UA (UA metal)
O:UA O:UA (two flights on UA metal)
O:UA O:UA+ (two flights or more on UA metal)
O:UA UA1-999 (two flights, first on UA metal, second on UA mainline)
O:UA UA1-999+ (two or more flights, first on UA metal, second or second and third+ on UA mainline)
-overnight (no overnight stops)
f UA.SDF+DEN.LALHLFS (forces the fare basis)
put it all together, reverse for the return
SDF:: O:UA UA1-999+ / -overnight, f UA.SDF+DEN.LALHLFS
DEN:: UA1-999 UA1-999+ O:UA / -overnight, f UA.SDF+DEN.LALHLFS
This finds a couple good itins on 12/13:
SDF-ORD-DEN/DEN-IAH-ORD-SDF
or
SDF-ORD-MCI-DEN/DEN-OMA-ORD-SDF
The IAH routing is key to extra miles - I wouldn't bother with the MCI/OMA routing unless you're after segments.
To book, I would enter it as a multicity itin: SDF-DEN/DEN-IAH/IAH-SDF.

Thanks, seeing an example of how things work always helps.

Makes sense.

Works through Expedia, but not through TYN site. Will deal with it myself.
Appreciate your help.
OK, booked it through TYN: 12/13 SDF-ORD-DEN-IAH-ORD-SDF. Ended up being about $225. Looks like traveling on day before last for Double Miles.
Thanks hausrath for tips, especially about IAH connection.
