Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., the third-largest U.S. lodging company, plans to sell its Bliss spa unit for $100 million...

The sale of the spa...will add to $125 million in asset sales...buyer is Steiner Leisure Limited. The Bliss and Remede brands will remain exclusive to Starwood’s W Hotels and St. Regis Hotels, respectively.

“We are having a hard look at assets that are non-core or that are so attractive that we can still get a good multiple,” Chief Executive Officer Frits Van Paasschen said during an Oct. 22 conference call. “There’s more money and interest than a few months ago.”

Actually, I was kind of hoping they would get rid of the brand all together. I'm kind of sick of the blissy stuff.

Although if that's the case, I'd need a refresher on my handle as well :p :D

Funny, I always thought you worked for them because of your handle.

You can't do that! I would be lost and confused. Even if you did change, I'd continue to call you BlissWorld!

Will they continue providing Shine by Bliss for Sheratons and Bliss Blue for Alofts?

I think that would have to be up to the new owners..whether to buy SPG points to give to customers. My guess would be yes for all in-hotel spas where you can bill it to your room, and no for freestanding spas.

Good point, the press release doesn't say anything about Sheraton and Aloft continue using bliss products

Actually, you currently don't get ANY starwood points for $ spend at Bliss spas - if you look at the SPG T&C, spa charges are specifically excluded (even if the spa is owned by the hotel, like all the Bliss spas).

Hyatt does give you points on spa charges as long as the spa is owned by the hotel and not a contracted service.

sy7, thanks, that makes it a pretty easy decision to go wherever is best, and never go to starwood spas. :D

...and Mandara Spas and Chavana Spas- which are in a few Starwood properties already or will be.

You currently get double Starpoints on SPG Amex Spend at Bliss spas though. I hope that continues and that W and Sheraton continue to offer the Bliss and Shine products.

Wonder what this will mean for international expansion of the Bliss brand.
