So this is another what should I ask for for compensation thread. I apologize in advance if I should have added this to some master thread, but I searched and didn't come across one.
My wife and I checked into the HR Paris CDG last thursday night at 10:45 pm. We were informed at checkin that due to a mandatory check on the electrical and sewage system, water and electricity at the hotel would be shut off at 11:15 until 6 am. They then handed us a flashlight and a bottle of water.
Now the property and staff were all very nice and apologetic, but I had been planning on working that night as well as making a number of business calls. Of course, with 30 minutes of water and electricity, we both barely had enough time to grab a shower. The lights ended up going off around 11:30. We couldn't even leave our rooms because we figured the electronic door locks also weren't working. The next morning, the electricity was on, but there was still no water for the entire morning.
I expressed my dissatisfaction at the front desk but didn't have time to push the matter as I had to catch a flight. Now I know that this is a mandatory annual requirement in France, but I feel like the hotel should have told us in advance, whether on their website, or at booking, or in the pre-arrival notices they sent us. Heck, hotels usually show disclaimers when their restaurant or pools are closed. Not having water or electricity is quite a bigger deal.
I drafted up a complaint letter but I'm not sure who to send it to or what to ask for in compensation. It's not really a gold passport problem, and I really don't want to spend a bunch of money sending letters to france. Any ideas?
Thanks
