I've got some GH Kauai awards that I'm going to be cancelling soon for a period that the hotel currently has no awards for...should I post it here or is there a new award clearing thread?

I also secured one night at PH Tokyo on 1/2 after waiting for several weeks. Keep checking is definitely the key!

I'm not so sure this thread is relevant anymore since there are no longer capacity controls on GP award nights. So basically you cancelling your award is the same as somebody else cancelling their paid nights, and the same thing as the hotel just opening up more standard room inventory.

And in fact I'm not so sure you cancelling your award room will actually make an award room automatically available anymore. Previously it would if you cancelled your award PROPERLY, but now I'm not positive if will go directly back into the standard room inventory bucket.

But if you cancel your award, please do go and check if that award then immediately becomes available (either as another award OR as a paid room).................just to satisfy my curiousity as I have wondered about this.

Thank you for thinking of (and searching for) this thread. I've moved your post to a new thread which I won't make a sticky. But please to post your cancellation dates, it could help someone out.

I haven't figured it out since the capacity controls were eliminated, but I think it still does, a friend had let me know that they were probably going to cancel PH Vendome, which I checked (and picked up - obviously could have been "someone else" also) a couple of weeks later for 12/31-1/2 (now shows as Passport Plus only).

So there is some value still for an awards clearing thread like this - not as much as before (so not going to be a sticky).

OK, here is the story.
I was only partially able to give FFN nights that I had on hold at GH Kauai to a fellow FT'er who requested them.

After cancellation the rooms did not immediately go back into inventory as in the past.
However 6 of the nights became available and were thus successfully transferred within 1-3 hours of cancellation (no obvious rhyme or reason for the amount of time)

However 1 night was lost in the process. It's possible it never went back into inventory, or just as likely someone else could've grabbed it in the 1-3 hour interim.

Hope this helps!
