Due to its restructuring which will lead to the cut of about 50 domestic and international flights, JAL is due to axe its 2 weekly NRT-YVR-MEX service. JAL will continue YVR flight but the leg YVR-MEX will be suspended on 25 March 2010.

GRU will continue as the only route flown by JAL in Latin America with the 3 weekly NRT-JFK-GRU B747, while AM still operates from MEX to NRT 2 weekly B767/B777.

with the AM competition and Canada requiring transit visas for Mexican citizens, not too big a surprise. I took that flight many times. I am saddened by it.

But I think its more due to the fact that MX is joining OW and this way, JL may just codeshare with them to bring traffic from YVR to MEX and beyond.

JAL actually has been codesharing with MX for a while. I would say this has more to do with JAL financial problem and the route isn't making enough profit

Do you have a source for this? We are booked on this leg in April and haven't heard anything from AM or JAL about any changes.

Travelocity is still selling the tickets.

The route cut details are posted here:

JAL is closing its Mexico City office, also to reduce costs. The remaining Vancouver service will be increased to 7 days per week (up from 5).

Thanks for the link!

I've forwarded it to our TA to see how this will affect our trip. I hope AM will step up and just run their own equipment! But am a little saddened that we won't get to fly JAL.
