Hello .. first time, long time.

I have been a Continental/SkyTeam Gold member for quite some time. When I would book flight on partner SkyTeam airlines, the airline would know my Elite status immediately after entering in my frequent flyer number and let me select priority seats without any cost.

With Continental joining Star Alliance, will this still happen? I just booked a flight on US Air and noticed that I can't select Choice Seats without paying $ and Exit rows cannot be selected.

Is this true with all other Star Alliance partners?

Thanks for the help!

Up until last week when CO joined *, only US preferred members could select the choice seats and exit rows for free ahead of time. I don't think this has changed.

Unless a change is announced, as a Star Gold, your status will be recognized by US when you fly, but you won't get any preferential treatment when it comes to selecting seats (although there have been reports of some success in getting the better seats when you call an agent). Your boarding pass will reflect your status, and you will have early boarding privileges as well as free checked bags. The same is with United. They will recognize your status, but you don't officially get free access to E+ like UA elites do. I'm not sure about US, but UA will also let you use their premier check in counter.
