Emirates Airlines Skywards - EK10 - Check in time in first?

Hello all.
In May I was lucky enough to pick up a great deal on Emirates in First LGW-DXB-BKK with the DXB-BKK legs on the A380. It was the A380 which swung it and persuaded me to splash the cash.
Since then I've been vicariously living the experience through many of your excellent posts and trip reports here. The excitement is mounting as my flight is on 14 November.
I wondered if anyone could help me with a question. What time can I expect check in for First at Gatwick to open. I know I'm going to be like a kid on Christmas morning on the day itself but didn't want to spoil it all by arriving at the airport ridiculously early and having to wait for check in to open.
Scheduled departure for EK10 is 20.50 btw so I'm working on 17.50 but hoping check in might open earlier.

Small peice of advice - as I rememebr being as excited as you the first time I did first. 3 hours before and you will practically be the only one at the check in desks, the agent will be looking for pens, checking the machines, re-clipping their hair up (even the boys), etc and will not give you the attention that I presume you are looking forward to.
IMO I would get there 2 hours prior, that way, there will be moe of a buzz at the desks and you kinda feel even more special as there are people feeling good about themselves at the Business Desk, and you feel better breezing past them and going to First.
The LGW lounge is good, but nothing to write home about, the Duty Free Shopping is far better in DXB, so there is little to do once you are through.
That said you will want to spend time in the DXB F lounge, it's great, fine dining, bars, chill out spaces.
Hey enjoy your flight!;)

Hope you have a great time. Flew F last month LHR-DXB-BKK-DXB-LGW. Had a fantastic time. Crew on each leg were fantastic however the BKK-DXB leg was by 773ER as A380 taken out of service so slightly miffed. Wife and I were in 1A and 2A on the DXB-BKK A380 leg. If you are a skywards member get those seats booked now! Only went up the bar at the back for a quick drink as too comfortable in our seats and the Dom was flowing!

It's a personal choice, but I beg to differ, I think that 1A and 1K are the worst seats on the 380 as, well they are both slightly shorter than the other seats, and you are by the curtain and can see traffic in and out of the bathrooms.
I would go for the middle seats, as the partition comes down easy enough if you want to sit together, or go for 2, 3 or 4 A or K and you are behind each other.
Again, its a personal choice!

Totally agree with you that it's personal choice. Having sat in the middle pair off suites on the outward flight from LHR on the 773ER we found them a bit impersonal even with the privacy screen in the down position hence the decision to go with 1A and 2A. I think it was the luxury factor to be sitting in 1A on the A380 as we don't often fly F.
PS Nice to see you are still posting on the EK threads:cool:

I was in the North Terminal yesterday and noticed the check ins started to open at 4.20pm. A queue for the economy checkins was already snaking into the terminal floor space.
I'll be doing the same trip as you in 3 weeks time, no doubt we both brought the same great offer !!
