Hi,
I am travelling from Tampa to India via JFK-DXB
My trip is TPA - JFK (Delta)
JFK - DXB (Emirates)
Delta lands in Term 3 and Emirates flight departs from Term 4.
Even when Delta guys thru checkin our luggage in Tampa, do I have to pickup in Term 3 and carry it over to Term 4 and re-checkin?
Any recent experiences ? suggestions please

i assume you have a single DL+EK ticket.
when you check-in at tampa, make sure your luggage is checked all the way through your destination in india. the airlines will take care of your bags and you will receive them at your final destination.
when returning, follow the above. at jfk, you will go through immigrations, pick-up your luggage, pass through customs. immediately after customs, you can drop your bags off at a delta counter. simple.

That's right. Thru check-in at Tampa. Again, when you collect your boarding passes at JFK, ensure that they double check to ensure that your bags get onto the EK flight.
I did a similar Delta connection from Charlotte to JFK and then on the EK flight to DXB and onward to India, in August. The EK ground staff were very efficient in ensuring and assuring me that my bags were on board. My Delta flight in bounds to JFK was awfully delayed and I barely made my connection (no surprises ........ Delta sucks!!!!)
